Dear Murphy family,

As former Property Manager for Thresholds, I had the pleasure and honor of knowing and working with LeRoy for seven years. I was always impressed and encouraged by his concern and respect for others, even in moments of disagreement. Every appointment I had with LeRoy was a day I looked forward to. It was a joy for me to work with this brother in Christ.

At one point in my time with Thresholds, my father-in-law told me he had met LeRoy when LeRoy was offering some assistance to the L'Arche community of Chicago, of which my father-in-law has been very involved. I was not surprised in the least to hear of this, though delighted by another, unexpected connection.

I rejoice in his life of faith and offer you my prayers for your family in your sudden grief.

Dear Mary Lou and family,

I am at a loss to express my feelings at hearing of LeRoy's passing, but I would like to share this little story about how LeRoy profoundly influenced my life.

It was back in the early 70's as I recall, and LeRoy and I were part of a Sensitivity Training group. LeRoy and I were bantering back and forth, he supporting the war in Vietnam, and I deploring it. Sr. Margaret, S.P. broke in and said I think something is being said here that isn't being said. I thought to myself: "I've said everything I can think of." Then someone in the group chimed in: "I think LeRoy is trying to tell Dan he cares about Dan." LeRoy admitted that Dan (me) was his true concern--he was concerned about what would happen to me if I continued to oppose the war. I was speechless. I learned then, that ideas while important are nowhere near as important as caring for one another. LeRoy truly exemplified for me and you as well I'm sure a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Thank you LeRoy for being part of my life.

To all who have loved and been loved by Leroy:

When uncle Leroy left this world, he left me a better person than before we had met. He was filled with GENUINE love, kindness and empathy. His spirit was HUGE and filled with so many wonderful things that I think the earth itself must have gasped as his spirit left it.

He was always kind to me,he always encouraged me, and of course asked hundreds of questions. The questions he asked were asked in love, I feel he truely wanted to know about me , about my family, and about my life.

I bet you all have heard the questions as I have, for his concern for others was far reaching.

I will always miss the sparkle in his eyes, and his smile.

I hope that just a piece of what he added to my life I can pass on. I thank God for allowing our paths to cross. I will miss him terribly, but will never let that stop the laughter that he gave so generously.

Heaven has gained a humble and gentle spirit, and the spirits who meet him there need to prepare themselves for his "hundred" questions.

I send this with love to all who were touched by his life

LeRoy: How do you say goodbye to a friend you admire for his faithfulness as a husband, a father and a Christian? ....who's met adversity with persistence and grace, whose quiet (and not so quiet) ways have improved life for many,..whose love for others is evident in all that he does, whose faithful presence has seen you through some of your best and worst days, whose shared values offered quiet harmony, whose many interests have made your life more interesting, whose gentle strength has been the bedrock of a decades old relationship.

Dear Friend, the ripples you began in your home and community are reaching distant shores.

With our love,

I was stunned to hear of LeRoy's sudden death. As the Coordinator of Spiritual Services at Resurrection Medical Center, I can say that LeRoy has been one of our most faithful and reliable Eucharistic Ministers for years, and a willing sub. as well. A wonderful guy who will be sorely missed by many people.
