I just found this entry online and it brings back memories of Len Fenninger, his love of garden, home and family, and all the Fenningers.

I have never known a more briliant man Leonard shared his observations about so much he had read, learned, observed and internalized in conversations with his friends in the most unobtrusive way; history, poetry, classical music and opera, choral music, horticulture, gardens, birds, food, politics and medicine. I only touched the surface. What a privilege to have been friends for so many years on account of my husband's relationship with him before world war 11 at Princeton. Len enjoyed life. He was a born teacher, a civilized man having respect love for others. nobility and grace.

I worked with Len at Feinberg School of Medicine in the Physical Diagnosis course in the 1980's. I was the coordinator of the course & I enjoyed our interactions. In later years when I changed offices & jobs, he would stop by my office and we would visit. I retired from FSM two years but have thought about our interesting conversations many times.

Our family, the Howes, have very fond memories, especially during childhood, of spending great times with all the Fenningers. Uncle Len was a solid presence in our family ever since he and my Dad met in Med School. What a great loss to the medical community and to all of us whose lives he touched over many decades of friendship. My love and condolences to Aunt Jane, Annie, and David, and all the extended family. love,

Uncle Len was my father's (Dr. William Howe, Jr) classmate at University of Rochester Medical School, best man at my parent's wedding and Uncle Len and Aunt Jane Fenninger were my Godparents. He was a special man with great intellect, people skills and ever present love for all he knew. It was with great pleasure that I got to reunite with the Fenninger's at Uncle Len's 90th birthday in Evanston in 2007. My prayers and condolences go out to Aunt Jane, David and Anne. Uncle Len was a blessing to us all. May he rest in peace.

I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Dr. Fenninger when I worked in Medical Ethics.
Dr. Fenninger would come by my office before class just to chat with me. Dr. Fenninger was not only a very kind but a very interesting person to chat with. He always made me feel important and made my day!
I am sure that Dr. Fenninger will be sorely missed by many including me. What a wonderful person.
My deepest sympathy to his family.
