Lawton Akers Obituary

Lawton (Cap) Lanham Akers Jr., from Magalia, CA, entered into rest on Sunday, January 21, 2007 in Mesa, AZ, after a short illness at age 81.

He was born on June 28, 1925 in Paularino, CA to Lawton and Hazel Akers. He served in the United States Marine Corp. during World War II and in Korea. He retired after working for 28 years for the State of California, Caltrans, as a Highway Maintenance Superintendent, but his love was truck driving before his career with the State.

He resided in Magalia for the past 28 years and was very active in the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners. He loved animals, gardening, reading westerns and traveling.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Helen Akers, his parents, his daughter Cathy Ann Akers, and his sisters Betty Booksin and Shirley Bailey.

He is survived by his daughter Jackie Caves and husband Robert of San Jose, CA; son Terry Akers of Gilbert, AZ; daughter Diane Youngbird and William of Oklahoma; eight grandchildren Patricia and Stacy Caves of San Jose, Trent Akers and wife Necole of Gilbert, AZ; Easton and wife Natalie of Alaska; four other grandchildren in Oklahoma and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Art Akers of Arnold, CA and his loyal companion dog, Penny, and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Cherokee Memorial Park Chapel, Hwy 99 at Harney Lane, Lodi, CA.
