Family-Placed Death Notice

Dr. Kuang Chiu Li, age 88, of Lilburn, died Saturday, August 23, 2003. He is survived by his son, Konrad Li of Griffin, GA; daughter and son in-law, Charlene and Aaron Smith and three grandchildren, Abigail, Benjamin and Charles Smith of Lilburn, GA, and his two sisters, Sister Caecilia Lei Kong Va, f.m.m. of Taipei, Taiwan, and Sister Ines Lee Kong Shin, f.m.m. of Macao. He was preceded by his wife, Dr. Yu Ying Fu Li. He was born in Kwangtung, China on July 4, 1915. As a child he lived in Shanghai, China. He graduated from Diocesan Boys School in Hong Kong in 1935. He received his B.S. in Chemistry from the National Southwest Association University in China in 1940. He worked as an engineer in China. He was in the Tenth Arsenal of the Chinese Army during World War II. Following World War II, he came to the United States to attend the University of Massachusetts. In 1950, he received his M.S. and in 1952, he received his Ph.D. in Food Chemistry. He became a U.S. citizen in 1961. He was a Research Associate with the Agricultural Experiment Station, Cornell University, Geneva, NY from 1952 to 1958. He was a Food Technologist with the Citrus Experiment Station, University of Florida from 1958 to 1961. He was Chief Chemist with the N. Am. Lab in Indiana from 1961 to 1962. In 1962, he moved to Atlanta, GA and worked and retired as an Associate Professor of Food Science at the Georgia Experiment Station, University of Georgia, in Griffin, Georgia. Kuang Chiu was a member of Sigma Xi and a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemists. After the death of his wife in 1969, he retired early and devoted his time to raising his two children. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, August 27, 2003 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Wages & Sons Funeral Home in Stone Mountain. A Memorial Service will he held at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Stone Mountain at 11:00 a.m. on August 28, 2003. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alpha Xi Delta Foundation, First at Tech-First in Sisterhood Campaign, P.O. Box 56074, Atlanta, GA. 30343.
