Kathryn Mullins was the cause of one of my life's most embarrassing moments. In a crowded college cafeteria during the early Spring of 1971, after just having met, I looked at her across the table and blurted out "You have the most beautiful face I have ever seen" - totally out of character for a shy boy like me, shocked silence from the 10 or so friends at the table, glares from the other women, and a blush that made Kathryn even more lovely. For the next two years, her intelligence, good nature, sense of humor and love lit up my life like a comet. When I told my children that my college girlfriend looked like Mariah Carey they didn't believe me until they saw Kathryn's pictures here. In retrospect I can only attribute her leaving Providence without me to SYMS - "Stupid Young Man Syndrome." When I hear the lyrics of the Leon Russell rock and roll ballad from that time - "As I listen to the sea roll in, I'll be thinking of you and thinking how it might have been" - the only person I have ever thought of and will ever think of is Kathryn Mullins.

Barbie, Dave, Andrea, Erin,
Those of us who adored Kathryn and lost touch with her, but always expected to reconnect, have so many questions about those she loved and those who loved her - would you consider mailing a note to [email protected] and catching us up on a some of Kat's life in the past few decades? We'd be very grateful!

I've been looking for Kat since we graduated college in 1972 and am devastated to find that she is gone. I was certain all these years that we would get together again. I loved her dearly.

Growing up, Kathy and my eldest sister were close, close friends. Kathy embodied a kind of insightful warmth rare in our childhood culture. She was shiny and kind. My last contact with her was at my mom's memorial service. Out of a massive crowd of acquaintances out pops this bright, tender being with a perfect hug and look of understanding. What a light.

Kathy was a friend at Brown and I've thought of her often in the years since. She was much loved by her many friends there and, clearly, everywhere else. Thank you, Kathy, for your spirit, sparkle and, especially, for sharing so much of your dear, true self with us.

Kathryn is an inspiration to me. Life changes, it does not end. "Those who go remain in the hearts of those who stay, and those who stay remain in the hearts of those who go." St. Francis DeSales

Kathy really got a kick out of the annual Auto Show. She was inexplicably attracted to the big trucks. The bigger the better. In fact, Kathy was someone who smiled big. Laughed big. Gave big hugs. Turned little dinner parties into the biggest events. And had, of course, the biggest heart ever.
Needless to say, we're really going to miss her. Big-time.

My fondest memory was going over to Kathryn's and having her teach me how to cook. Hours would fly by and I would learn a whole lot more than cooking

Kathryn was part of our Monday night girls crew at Core Power. We all looked forward to seeing each other each week. We joked, we laughed and we truly cared for each other, despite the limited time we knew one another. The other girls and I said we wanted to be as youthful and vibrant as Kathryn when we were her age. I will miss her smiling face.

I first met Kathy in Birmingham, Michigan. She was a Junior at Kingswood School and I was a Sophomore at Brother Rice High School. Her friends and my friends all hung out together and had some of the best times of our lives.
Kathy was a bright star. Her laughter filled the room, her silliness was contagious. Being with her was a delight.
After high school we all went our separate ways.
This year, I was so fortunate to see her again at the memorial service for one of our dear friends. It was so great to catch up with her, share some old memories and create some new ones.
I will miss her.

Kathryn and I did our yoga teacher training together. She was funny, understanding and very insightful. She was a great friend. She loved her family more than anything. She will be missed.

I knew Kathy in high school. When I got the news of her loss I found our yearbook and found pictures of one of the prettiest, kindest and smartest girls (and one of the very best athletes) in our class. She will be missed by many!
