Kathleen Suizzo Obituary

(Czulewicz) Suizzo, Kathleen "Lena" Mary

January 15, 1962 – February 23, 2021

It's impossible to know Lena without loving her. Our world will never be the same with the loss of this beautiful angel, who passed on February 23rd of metastatic breast cancer. The life of the party who never passed up a good dance floor, Kathleen "Lena" Mary Suizzo (née Czulewicz) was a loving wife and incredibly devoted mother. Lena's passion for family and life were reflected in her kindness and generosity. She never backed down from a fight worth fighting and she championed those who didn't have a defender. She loved to travel and delighted in learning. Lena was born in Erie, PA on January 15, 1962. She attended St. James grade school and Tech Memorial High School. After graduating, she moved to Chicago, IL where she met the love of her life, Anthony Suizzo. She graduated from Northwestern University with honors, all while working full time and raising a family. She went on to build a distinguished career as a human resources executive. For over 25 years she worked for First Nonprofit Insurance Company in Chicago, IL, where she became Director of HR. At the time of her death, she was the HR Director for the Plantation, FL and Naperville, IL offices of Diaz Anselmo and Lindberg P.A. She and Tony moved to South Florida in 2018 with their beloved Dalmatian Ghost and their cockatiel Tweety. Lena has joined her parents Edward and Virginia ("Ginny") for a joyous reunion in Heaven. She is survived by her husband Tony and sons Joe and Nick, her siblings Janet York (husband Rick), Ed Czulewicz (wife Patty), Sharon Czulewicz (husband Tim), Christine Armstrong (husband Kim), Patricia Wilson (husband Mike), Ted Czulewicz, and Carol Wagner (husband James), her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and large extended family along with many friends all over the world. Lena's spirit is alive in packed piano bars, narrow Roman, Parisian, and Venetian streets, warm tropical beaches, and a good glass of wine. Her delight in life and wide, gorgeous smile will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her. Services will be held in both Erie, PA and Fort Lauderdale, FL. Details to come. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. or the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

I'm very sorry to hear of Lena's passing. We worked together at Brokers Risk in Chicago and she went out of her way to check in on how I was doing after I stopped working there. She was always so kind and empathic in every interaction I ever had with her. My most sincere condolences.

My heart goes out to Lena's family and friends during this difficult time. I knew Lena when she was with First Nonprofit and she welcomed me with open arms and a loving spirit. My memories of my time with her there were all wonderful and I cherish those to this day even 15+ years later. We are all better people because we knew her and that infectious spirit will live on with all that knew and adored her.

I 1st met Lena when she brought me in as a temporary employee on Halloween, 2005 at First Nonprofit Insurance. She opened the door wearing a bathrobe, curlers in her hair and her front teeth were blackened out. I immediately liked her. After a few years and now a permanent employee, I had to go to HR and request some time off for a medical issue. She had tears in her eyes and came around her desk to give me a hug. A couple years later, she stopped me as we were passing and asked me how I was doing. She gave me another big hug. Who in corporate America does that? Only Lena. She was special in so many ways. Her smile showed the world how beautiful she was both inside and out. So here is my virtual hug to Lena's family and friends. My sincere condolences on her passing.

Lena and I became fast friends when we started roles at a new company on the same day. Even though she and I only worked together for 2 years, she kept in touch. Lena will be remembered exactly as her family has described her, personally and professionally - always helping others, always genuine, always passionately supportive and kind. She was truly one of the best people I've ever known. Prayers to her family and many loved ones.

My dear friend Lena, who is forever in my heart and forever in my prayers:
Those who knew her were blessed
When we meet someone who shares our joys
Who knows when we are up or down
Who shows they care in so many ways
And never lets us down
That is who we can call our friend
With heartfelt sympathy.

Lena was a shining light in so many lives, myself included. She was so smart and funny and loved her family and friends so strongly. We had great conversations and so much fun. I treasure the last time we got together at my house in AZ in November 2017. What a fabulous time we had. I will miss her dearly. Sending love to Tony, Joey, and the rest of her family and friends.
