Karin--she liked to spell her name with an "i" to set herself apart. Actually, Karin and I mostly called each other "Dude". She arrived on Crabtree Avenue bringing the South side with her. The new girl on the block grabbed everybody's attention. We gradually formed a clique--the six of us--which grew as time went by and changed as time went by.
Karin and her family showed me a physical expression of love I wasn't that familiar with...hugs and "I love you's" were abundant in their home.
Karin taught me all about music--sharing her infinite knowledge about which band sang which song. Pat Travers and Triumph being some of her old favorites...Blackberry brandy stands out in my mind as another one of her old favorites, but we would drink anything back then...even Boonesfarm. More recently; she, Ed and I enjoyed drinking better wine together.
Back to the good old days when we were carefree and our only worry was if it would be sunny or not so we could lay out at her pool all morning, broil hot dogs for lunch and see what Luke and Laura were up to on General Hospital.
Trips into the city were a special treat. Visiting Nonnie (sp?) at the Amana shop and then off to Oak Street Beach. Soaking up the sun is something Karin and I have always been good at.
Everybody needs a cottage in Michigan. I have very special memories of the few times I went there...especially of bonfires on the beach.
When we realized our friendship would soon be put to the test and there would be many miles between us...Karin and I decided to get matching tattoos (before it was popular). I've never regretted it...I hope she didn't.
Karin's legacy, her mother's and her grandmother's will live on in her children, her sisters, her brother and her nieces and nephews. Karin told me shortly before she died that God must have a plan for her and she would be an angel up there.
She touched my life and many others in a very special way...
Toga anyone?
"Turn the Page"
"Boom Boom--Out Go the Lights"
After I moved, Karin and I never ended a conversation without saying "I love you and miss you."
