Dear Grandma,
You introduced me to the river, the great forest, and God's creatures that dwell within them, the splendor and welcoming of each season, to understand, accept and respect one of God's most precious creations, and to become part freely, and without reservation into my own being, and all there is to learn. Gifts, I can never repay.
When I find myself listening to the snow fall, or am simply embraced by the colors of autumn (my favorite of all the seasons), it is of your memory I shall reflect upon.
I reflect upon often of my youth, when I was blessed to spend the summer with you at your cabin in Ojibwa. You had just finished raking the back yard, and sat with me on the wood and rock bench facing the Chippewa Flowage, and all its surroundings. As you sat there, still with the rake in your hands, I watched you stare into that river, though in my youth, and in my own ways, came to understand your love for the water.
Grandma, I hope you know that I Love you, even though I never really told you. I shall always bare the regret that I did not spend more time with you, and all I could have learned from you. The Love from your heart just as "your" river, flows to no end, and how blessed am I that yours has run through mine. I am so very glad you had a chance recently to visit the ocean, and to know what you saw and were feeling, thinking and experiencing will always be a mystery and unknown joy. I hope you are at peace as you were that one day on the bench. I Miss You!!!
