Into a post war Europe, encouraged by her sisters, a young woman of Italian heritage, leaves all her family and friends, and takes a job with the State Department. This was not the norm for a women in the 1940's and 50's to do. As a child, I sadly watched for go.In recent conversations with Jo, she told me she didn't know anyone when she arrived at her station in Europe. I have always admired her courage. My family is blessed with strong women doing things ahead of their times. We grew up knowing her sisters who were women also engaging in careers not normally done by women.I miss those holiday times with the "girls on Loomis Street"

I lost track of Jo, but was fortunate that I and my children were able to get to know her again. She was a elegant lady. When I would speak of our travels to Europe, she said it made her feel young again. I would say to her"then, let's go". Her youthful wonderlust was still there. We will miss her, and stories of her far away places.

Jo was a very close friend of my mother's. She was a part of "The Club" and was at our house many times. We have such great pictures of the "girls". My dad (Emerson) loved to tease Jo. My mother is Arline McCarron DeMano.

Such a sweet lady...family friend, especially to my Grandmother and her sister- who claim to have "found you" in Italy!
As a child, I remember it was an extra-special holiday when you and "the sisters" arrived. Thank you for giving me your Italian plates... you are thought of at every special dinner. Forever we will remember your charming stories of Italy, your elegance and generosity.
Peace be with You, Michael and Tammy (Epifanio) LeBeau

I will miss Jo very much, we were cousins & the best of friends. I grew up living in their home sometimes more than my own. My memories of all the wonderful times we had will remain with me always.
