To the family of Joseph Tholl Sr. who I always called him Joe. We always had things to talk about most of which was wrestling. It was always a pleasure to see him at the matches that I was either coaching or officiating. I know he will be missed and my wife Virginia and I plus my family send our condolences and prays to the family.

I send my condolences to the family of Joseph Tholl. Joe was truly a “Pioneer” in every sense of the word. He coached youth sports all of his life. He was a Pioneer and one of the key members of the group that started and administrated the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation, where I was honored to work alongside him. Joe was also a Bulldog! If he felt strongly about an issue, he would let you know and keep letting you know until you got the message, and he was almost always right! As anyone who was lucky enough to have been associated with or worked with Joe can tell you, he had the friendship and respect of the athletes, parents, coaches, and officials he dealt with over the years.
I count Joe as one of my lifelong friends. Joe was always surrounded by his family so I got to know Marianne, Joe Jr., Mike, Catherine, Tim, Bruce, Paul, and Bonnie. I will miss Joe, as will the thousands of friends he made.

No words can describe the impact that this one man had on so many of us men from the south side of Chicago that were fortunate enough to have been coached by him. The number literally has to be in the ten's of thousands. Being one of those men, I must first express the heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Tholl and family for sharing him so selflessly for so many years with all of us. I am, and always will be, a better man because of my years being coached by, and subsequent lifelong friendship, with Mr. Tholl. When I get to town tomorrow for the wake & funeral, I am going to go for a run. And when I get to the Bulldog building, I am going to hear those words I have not heard in 45 years…..”5 laps 8-ball”. And for the first time in my life I am going to enjoy every one of them (no cutting it short in front of the backstop or foul poles either). Maybe I'll see one of you other fortunate “8-balls” out there.
With much Love & Respect, Shawn Bergeron (“8-ball” for life)

Tholl Family,
We are sorry to hear of your loss. Joe Sr. was one of those people that will always be in our hearts and minds. He helped shape all of us as kids into young men. We have the fondest memories of him and his sons throughout the years at the Orland Park Pioneers. He will truly be missed.
