I just learned of Joe's passing. My children enjoyed many, many happy summers and wonderful memories from Golden Arrow. I always told Joe that he was the nicest man in the world...and he WAS! I hope your memories bring comfort to you, and that he rests in peace. He will be missed.

To the Tadelman Family I send my deepest sympathies to you all. I played basketball for Kelvyn Park back in 1980 and coach was always soft spoken and compassionate. What he taught me had prepared me for the up and downs in life. During my tenure in the United States Marine Corps and even when I played college and pro level basketball overseas I often reflect on his teaching and love of the game.Coach will forever remain alive in my heart.

My hearfelt condolences to Joe's family. In 1952 as a camper at CAA day camp Joe was my counselor, and was able to teach me to navigate the width of the pool with some manner of movement of my arms and legs. That summer he sent me an evaluation that included some well thought out words of motivation. While I was in college I came across that note, copied it, and it has held a place in my wallet since that day. Throughout college, med school and later in my life, whenever I needed some inspiration I read that note. I was blessed by his attendance at my children's Bar/Bat Mitzvah where I could proudly introduce him to them as "the man who taught me to swim"! That note was simple: Define a goal; think about what you need to do to achieve it; and finally, BELIEVE IN YOURSELF! A bright light has been extinguished, but his legacy and teachings will live forever! He really taught me more than "how to swim"!

To the family of Joe Tadelman: As we began the process of planning our 45th Kelvyn Park H.S. reunion, I was informed of your dads' passing. He had attended our 25th reunion (1990) and was facing his own medical challenges at that time. It was so wonderful to see him and visit with him, as he always made time for others. I especially have fond memories of him back in the 1962-1965 years at K.P. He was admired and respected by all the students. He was a shining example of what our world needs Now-a man of truth, kindness, and integrity. I'm sure i speak for all Kelvyn Park alumni when I say he will be affectionately remembered.

Mr. Tadelman was our gym teacher at the Ericsson grade school in Chicago during the mid 1950's. He patiently taught us to dance, choreographed a wonderful rope exercise and so many other memorable "Father's Night Events". He was a great example for everyone he encountered. I offer my sincere condolences to his family.

Tadelman family: "Coach Tadelman" as I always knew him, had a profound effect on me and so many other young men in the Kelvyn Park football program. He taught us team work, integrity, and to always do our best, no matter what. He taught us with patience, love and many an encouraging word. He had a great sense of humor. I haven't seen coach in many years, but the lessons I learned from him will be with me always. God Bless Coach Tadelman and all his family at this time of loss. Sincerely, Neal W. Dear Miki and Rick:
I happened to stumble upon the news this morning on my way into work. Your dad had a great influence on me. Forty years ago your dad gave me my first job. It was more then a job, we were like a family. It seems like just yesterday. I am sure my story is not unique, as your dad gave many of us an opportunity. i saw your dad a few years ago and had a nice chat with him. He was very unique and will be missed. My heartiest condolences to you

Dear Rick and Family,
I was saddend to hear of the passing of your Dad. Please accept our most hearfelt condolences from my family to yours.
Although it was a "few" years ago, I will forever remember being inivited to eat dinner with you, your family and Jesse Owens. I didn't know, until years later, how impressive that evening truly was, and how far reaching your Dad's influence was, also.
It has been a lot of years since we last met, but I just thought you should know I have never forgotten, and will treasure that memory, always.

My deepest sympathies to the family of Coach Tadelman. I'm sure you are extremely proud of all the lives he has touched in such a positive way.
I will always remember the toughness, confidence and above all, the passion for team play and fairness he instilled in my life and thousands of other students/ athletes.
He will always be remembered for his "fake" gruff
voice , twinkling eyes and a smile that went from ear to ear.
He will be missed by all!

We need more Joe Tadelman's in this world. He was always smiling, complimentary of others, lifted your spirits and he never had a bad word to say about anyone. I always looked forward to the birthday cards Bernice and Joe sent out each year. They were both Very caring people. We miss them both dearly.

I remember Coach Tadelman, because both my brother and I were Kelvyn Park graduates. Greg Hegyi, my brother was on the basketball team and the baseball team. He spoke so highly of Coach Tadelman. He was a fair and honest coach and a man of integrity. (Even my husband who attended Lane Tech, would occasionally "cut out" of school to see the games) Greg went on to become a Navy Seal and fought valiantly in VietNam. He is now fighting Agent Orange which turns into Cancer.
Thank you Coach Tadelman for such an impact on both myself and especially my brother Greg.

Joe was so much a part of my past at Golden Arrow. He would come in the morning in his great big station wagon and have the canoe on top. He always was happy and loved us kids as if we were his own. He taught me that I could be whatever I wanted to be. I will always remember him and your family Ricky and Miki. Cindy Karlin Sharfman

My deepest sympathies go out to the family of Joe Tadelman!
Coach Tadelman taught me so much about "Passion & Compassion"! Athletes need to possess the "passion" to compete/excel in sports while as our coach he exhibited great "compassion" for all players on his teams!
Coach taught each of us the fundamentals of the game, how to be mentally tough, & fair play. Above all, never to embarrass/disrepect your teammates, opponents or officials.
As I now enter my 33rd year of coaching college sports, I often think about Coach Tadelman along with all the wonderful coaches I had at Kelvyn Park HS.
We will miss you, Coach! And you & your comtributions will always be remembered...

The man was a legend. If you can emulate one person who possessed great character, loyalty, integrity and friendship, Joe Tadelman is your first choice. He's in the IHSA basketball Hall of Fame for a reason.
You look at Joe and he looks like a Joe. Nothing out of the ordinary. You meet with Joe and get to know him and wow...sincere, compassionate, wise,a leader. His advise is right on! He's intelligent, he's religious, he's someone you would want for a neighbor. His life encompossed the entire range of emotions, high and low yet family was always first. If society could mold a man to improve on itself, Joe Tadelman would be on that list. I don't think anyone who reads this could argue with anything I've said. His legacy will always remain with the people he touched, and that list is long Woody

Dear Miki & Ricky, so sorry for your loss. My heart is broken, first because I can not be there and second because the world is an unhappier place without your father. He was a kind, loving man, who will be missed by everyone that knew him. He was Nan's second father and I feel her pain. I send my deepest regrets & love.
