Joseph Schieszler Obituary

SCHIESZLER, SR., JOSEPH F.

Joe, born in Cincinnati, Ohio, passed unexpectedly on July 29th after a long battle with both Heart and Lung disease.

Joe was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a degree in chemical engineering. After coming to Chicago to work for the Borden Chemical Company, he went on with partners to start "RESCO." With his "We Can Do It "attitude and acute business sense, he formed "RESCAR" and grew it into the largest privately held railcar maintenance and repair company in North America. "ALLTRANSTEK" started from his vision that car owners and lessees could benefit from fleet management that not only helped with logistics of maintaining their railcars but also providing data and analytics that would become essential to complying with a difficult regulatory environment. Today "Alltranstek" manages more than half of the U.S. fleet of tank cars.

Joe, while building was blessed with incredible employees with the Can Do It attitude. He has always thought of his employees as "family", they were one of his main focuses. Their safety was priority 1. He continually tried to educate and advance their careers. One way he tried to show his gratitude was to have summer picnics and Christmas parties among other events around the different facilities along with giving awards for service and time spent being with the Rescar family. Joe started the "Mr. Gus" sponsorship program for his employees and their families in honor of his father Augustus Schieszler. Quite a success for a guy who started out recycling DF bars.

Joe always had a passion for gardening and being amongst the garden he created. Flowers were one of his many enthusiasms, he could always be found in his garden.

Joe was a kind and loving partner of LaVerne, his wife of 42 years. He was a loving son to Gus and Mary Alice Schieszler, dedicated father of Joe (Monica), Susan (Bill Bowling), Jeffrey (Liza), David (Laurie Allen), Christopher, Jennifer Kois and the late Michael. Dear grandfather of Christine (Eric) Ockrassa, Andrea, Leila, Lily and Makayla and dear brother of the late Jerry and Augustus (Carole).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humanitarian Service Project. The first is by check to 465 Randy Road, Carol Stream IL 60188, please put Joe's name in the memo. Also, at HSP.AGENCY and click donate.

Christopher and Susan,

I am at a loss for words. My heart goes out to both of you. I am so sorry for the loss of your father, nothing I can say will make the pain any easier I know. Just know that you are in my heart and prayers all the way from down here in Abingdon, Virginia. I was just today looking at some pictures when we went to Florida when your dad and my aunt got married. It was a fun time for sure. I wish there was a way we could talk sometime when you both are more up to it, and we can arrange it. My number is 276-608-9642 Again all my love.
