As we approach the 13th anniversary of your passing, I can still feel your presence. I carry you with me; the quiet encouragement, the disappointed dad tone when I don't bother trying, the genuine love and care for those around you. You taught me what it means to be a friend, to really care for yourself and others. Thank you for being the definition of a Cristero, a man for others, a nurturer, a friend. I miss you always. <3

Dear Mr. Nemeth,
As Dia De Los Muertos approaches, I am thinking of you. This will be the first year I set up an alter for loved ones, and know you will have a prominent place. As broken as the world often feels, particularly these days, I remember how kindness, love and community always wins. I know this because we saw these values in you. To this day, I remain in awe of your selflessness and care for every human that walked across your path. 15 years after taking your chemistry class, you continue to be a role model for me. You would be proud of everything your students have accomplished in life. I know you are smiling down seeing the fruits of your labor manifested. What an honor to have benefited tremendously from crossing paths with you.

It's been almost 10 years and it hit me out of no where. The last time we spoke was during finals. "Christian, if you do not pass this test, you will not pass my class" I was later released from the place I still call home. Cristo Rey Jesuit High School. To this day I feel I have let you down. Now I feel like I have to go out in the world and overcome my obstacles and be where I need to be in life. We miss you, we love you and I am on a mission that I was taught many falls ago. Be a man or woman for others. I learned a lot of that positive attitude from you. Thank you Joseph Nemeth.

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Nemeth, it has been a hard time for all of us, but I would like to thank you so much for bringing an angel into our lives even if it was short. He meant a lot for every single person he met. He changed my life and will always be in my heart. It was an honor to have met him and cherish memories with him and having him inspire us as students to go on off into college. May God bless your family. Dear Dr. and Mrs Nemeth, Doug and I were so saddened to hear about your son's death. I read so many of the guest book entries, and what an amazing man Joshua was and how beloved he was to so many people. Our hearts go out to you and your family. Having known you for so many years, Dr. Nemeth, it doesn't surprise me that your son was such a kind, humble man. You and your family are in the Colbeth family's prayers. Mr. & Mrs. Nemeth and family, I did not know your son but I feel compelled to wish you peace and comfort during this difficult time. I would have met your son this fall in Charlottsville at the US Army JAG school and, based on the inspiring words from his friends, students and loved ones, I have no doubt he would have been an impressive Soldier and lawyer. I am very sorry for your loss. God bless.

My heart goes out to the Nemeth family. Although you may have never met me, I was a friend of Josh's at Benet. I had many classes with him and ate lunch with him nearly everyday of our four years at Benet. He was an intelligent young man then and he had an outstanding character--one of the most quality individuals I have met in my life. He clearly was, even at that age, concerned with spirituality and religion. Even with all his gifts, he maintained a modest demeanor. It was not in our destiny to maintain close contact after Benet, but he made such an impression on me that I will always remember him as an important person in my life. May God give you all comfort in your time of distress. Take care-Amer Moiduddin Benet class of '95

I never thought I would be writing this on your behalf. You truly lived up to every role. I can attest to the amazing mentor you were. Your unwavering support to every student made us come back to Cristo Rey every winter break and summer. We were blessed to have you as our Asesor for two consecutive years, and in that time our whole group matured together. I never heard a no from you. You provided my 20 recommendations for college. You ensured our success and left no room failure. You were at Cristo Rey for a reason, and took your job serious. You guided us when the path was not certain, and were there to rejoice and share our successes. Only God knows why he wanted you home so early in life, but I am certain you are still advocating on our behalves. Your lessons in life will continue shaping our futures. All of our entries will not do your life of service, love, and education justice but they will allow us to come together in this hard time. See you soon

Mr. Nemeth you were a great teacher with a beautiful smile, very humble young man, and kind heart. I regret not going to visit you after graduating in 2004, but it was my busy life that in a way prevented that special conversation. I probably could have find some time but we take everything for granted, and i apologize for that , but I always used to ask Nelly and Josy (sisters) how you were doing. You will be greatly missed , undoubtedly GOD takes the kindest and best people sooner, but only he knows why. My condolences to your family and god bless all of them. See you some day and you have my son in heaven, you might want toteah him some chemistry and look down and take care of my other little one. Thanks for everything and rest in peace.

Mr. Nemeth,
You are the most wonderful person I have ever meet. You were the one and only teacher that got me interested in Chemistry, or anything having to do with science for that matter. I will always remember your BIG SMILE :) and in junior year just last year that when ever i was at my locker or even passed by you were always there to greet me with one of your smiles. Remember the your birthday? when Ari brought you that cake, you were so suprised!I still remember you telling us about mole day, and how you said that you will be there at school waiting for us so that we could all celebrate it with you. And that's what we'll be doing. You are a true man for others, you were always there when we needed you. When ever I pass by your room you'll be there, when we tell stories about you, you'll be there. Because you are still here with us in our hearts of the people that loves you.. I just want to say thank you, for everything you have done. I miss you a lot, and love you much. May you rest in peace.

Like I told your mom, words can’t describe what a great person you are. You have touched so many hearts. On Thursday when the whole student body was informed that you had passed away, my heart broke into a million pieces. It all seemed so unreal, like as if it was all a horrible nightmare and I was hoping to wake up soon, but that never happened. You were sitting like right next to us on Field day a few days ago. You were the first teacher that made me like chemistry, before you the rest of my teacher were never able to make me be excited and science. I can still remember last year I was one locker away from your class room. You would always be standing by your door , and you would always say hi to me with your big smiles : ) Or in the beginnings of this school year before third period I would go visit you. The memories that we have shared will always be with us, because you are still with us in spirit. I remember when we did the lab with the candles using hydrogen and oxygen, I would cover my ears every time that I would try to blow out a candle with the little top part of the pipette thing because it the candle made a loud pop sound. You laughed and asked me if I didn’t like loud sound. And I said no. You have taught us so many things, from chemistry to life lessons that we will take with us for the rest of our lives. You are a true man for others. I will miss you lots and lots. I wont say goodbye because goodbyes hurt. You may not be fiscally here with all of us, but you will always be with us in spirit. When ever I pass your classroom you’ll be there, when ever we tell recollect those wonderful time that we had with you, you’ll be there. You have touched so many peoples lives, and made us better.

Mr. Nemeth,
Nothing can take away the pain you left inside my heart. Full of pain, misery, confusion, numb and so much more. I won't understand why God took you away from us so soon. I didn't wanna believe that it was you inside the coffin. that it's another person and your gonna come back to cristo rey and start teachin again. I can't keep lying to myself like that, it just hurts me more. You were supposed to be like 80 and I was supposed to be like 60 when this day was supposed to happen, but I guess God wanted you to teach him chemistry :). Remember what I told you, "Mr. Nemeth don't go to the army, that means your gonna die." I really did feel like crying cause it was true. I guess God heard my plea, but I didn't want you to leave like this. I have so many questions for you and most of them are ones only YOU can answer. I think you heard us but me, june, nd horacio were sayin that your prolly talking smack to all the dead cubs players and chilling with the soxs and bulls. Playing soliatre with the one chemist and trying to see how you can improve your chemistry skills. I regret not trying to see you at least ONCE a week because I was going to cross country. But I am deeply sorry though (we had this conversation too! about how i was busy and you understood too). I had so much planned for you and me; prom, going to fogata, e-mailing you bundles of times updatin you, visiting you during the summer, random visits in the fall, you handling my legal cases and me with your babies :) and so much more. Even thought you didnt see me, sister frances said that you would always ask for me. I knew some how if you didn't see me I knew you would hear cause like karina said i can be heard around the world. well, im really thankful for meeting you and having you as my teacher. I'll never forget how you pointed out one of my flaws and never let it go. you were the only one who did that :) and a bitter sweet memory too how denisse said I was mean and you didnt wanna believe her cause I was too nice to be mean :) I know you wouldn't like this but uh, im gonna tattoo your name :) one on my ankle with a tiny erlen mayerflask saying "JMN" and one on my back saying "RIP JOSH MARTIN NEMETH 11.15.76-09.15.10" don't get mad at me please :) "i cant wait for thanksgiving because of leftovers" :)I loved all of your quotes and sayings; you were one cool nerd :)
Save me a seat up there please? maybe we can freeze more roses, blow up more ballons, and burn more gummy bears :)and maybe some more True Colors :D I'll see you soon

Dear Nemeth Family, my name is Maria Ramirez I am from the class of 2005. I wanted to start by saying how wonderful a person Mr. Nemeth was. My junior year he really helped me a lot when I had become ill, both as an assesor and chemistry teacher. He was always smiling and so full of life. He was one of the people who helped me make the decision of becoming a teacher myself, and for that I will be forever grateful. He really emphasized the cristo rey motto. Dear Nemeth Family,
Josh was simply the most amazing, compassionate, and understanding person I had ever met. I was fortunate enough to have had him as my chemistry teacher my junior year and then as an advisor and journalism teacher my senior year. He was one of the main reasons I would continue to return to Cristo Rey five years after graduating. I will miss our chats, your laughter, your smile, the experiments, and your advice. But above all, I will miss seeing YOU! The third floor will not be the same without you.

Dear Nemeth family,
I am so very sorry for your loss. I worked with Josh for a few years at Cristo Rey, and knew him to be an exceptionally kind, gentle and patient person. As his coworker, I’m not at all surprised that he would finish his work in this world ahead of time, and then not stick around to accept any credit for it. I admired him as a teacher and as a man. I hope you take comfort in knowing the number of lives that he touched in his short life. He was an amazing mentor and role model for the kids he taught, and they are better for it. We all grieve with you.

The range of his intellect was inspiring - a conversation might span such topics as electoral politics, analysis of an Emily Dickinson poem, Illinois contract law, the doctrine of the Real Presence, and the weaknesses of the White Sox starting rotation... Even more impressive was the humble kindness and genuine affection he showed his students, many of whom he inspired to reach new heights of achievement and motivation. He had the mind of a scientist, the heart of a poet -- and the soul of a disciple. Josh was blessed with a strong faith in Christ and His Church, a faith which animated everything from his teaching to his plans to serve his country in the military.
I’ll miss our conversations, I’ll miss his dry humor, I’ll miss his occasional calls to update me on life at Cristo Rey. Most of all, I’ll miss a great friend who taught me by his actions that a life well-lived is a life lived in service to God and to others. And I’ll offer my prayers for the consolation of his family, and for the eternal rest of one of the best men I’ve ever known.

To Mr. Nemeth's parents,
I would like you to know that, you should all feel SO, proud that your son, turned out to be a great man. He was an angel here on Earth, that is the only way I find, that I can justify his early departure. In 3 weeks, he was able to get to me in such a way that not even people who I have known my whole life have been able to. I'm sure he already had his wings at birth, but God wanted to make it official. Thank You so much for giving us Mr. Nemeth and know that he will forever live on in our hearts and in his chemistry class.

Mr. Nemeth was the best teacher that anyone could ever ask for. To many of us, he was more than just our high school chemistry teacher. He was our friend and our mentor. It's hard to believe that he is no longer with us. It almost seems unfair that someone so great was taken from us.
Mr. Nemeth, you will be truly missed.

Mr. Nemeth,
I don't know why you are gone so suddenly from this world. To think that you were here with us two days ago joking and being the person we all grew to love. I know we have only known you for three weeks, but it feels like a life time. You have touched us all so quickly and in the three weeks we got to know you there was already a connection in our hearts. I will never forget your big smile and your obssession for Erlenmeyer Flasks. Because of you, I have learned that anything can be accomplished in life if one just puts their mind to it. You worked so hard and you taught us all well. No matter which teacher we get, no one will ever replace you as our teacher and as our friend. You will always have a special place in my heart and may God bless your family and friends. Rest in Peace with our heavenly Father and the Virgin Mary, la Virgen de la Guadalupe.

Mr Nemeth,
Walking into your chemistry class was something that I looked forward to every single day of my junior year. Even though chemistry was not one of my favorite subjects, I knew you were definitely my favorite teacher. There was never an excuse needed to stop by and say hi. Your big smile made you the greatest person I ever met. Your sense of humor was always present in the long conversations or the small "chismes" we had. I remember you adopted Melissa and me and you would call us "mijas". You were a strict parent because you told us we weren't allowed to start dating until we were 30. The letter that I received from you, during the kairos retreat meant so much to me. I knew that I had people in my life who really cared about me. I remember senior year I was upset because you were not going to teach the journalism class anymore. You loved duranguense music, especially Diana Reyes. You also had a crush on TsiTsiki, the Telemundo news reporter. You taught my brother and many other family members of mine. I couldn’t be more proud of attending Cristo Rey, because I had the privilege of learning from one of the most brightest person I ever met.
On our class prom you were there taking pictures with all of us, just as you were there for the school dances and for our graduation. I knew when you were with us that if I ever needed someone to go to for advice, that person was you. And today I still know that you are my little angel who will protect me and be there for me.

Ma & Pa Nemeth, Courtney, Matt, Megan, and Amy,
I am incredibly sorry for your loss. Josh was a truly great human being and I will value his friendship forever (he definitely made life at Northside entertaining). He was one of the most humble and honest individual I have ever known. The world is truly worse off without Josh in it, and we will never know the full extent of what could have been. I just know that Josh was going to make the world a better place for all of us somehow.

We are so saddened to hear the news about the passing of Josh. Our thoughts are with you & your loved ones during this time of loss. We treasure having had the chance to watch Josh grow up next door to us. Josh had a heart that matched his big smile. We will always picture him in his St. Mike's blue shirt playing ball in the backyard. We've been so proud of him growing up to be an inspiration making a difference in the lives of others. Josh will be dearly missed by so many. Please accept out heartfelt condolences at this difficult time.

Mr. Nemeth,
I can't believe that you are gone. I am really going to miss seeing you by your door, but most of all I am really going to miss how you always made my day when it wasn't going so well, and how you helped me through one of my toughest times in high school. You were a great man. I'll never forget when I just graduated and I walked down the aisle, you looked at me as if you were saying, " I knew you could do it", you were so proud. You were a man with strong faith in God and in your students, and I admired you for that. I am going to miss you so much, but i know that you will be with us in spirit.

Mr. Nemeth, God why you? You were a true friend to me. You never gave up on me, even when i gave up on myself. You believed in me, even when i didnt believe in myself. You saw my true colors when nobody else saw them. You knew when I was sad and asked "hows everything?". Or when in the cafeteria you would say "catch up later?" God Mr Nemeth i swear I would give anything to just see you one last time. Just one last time. I know you brought us all together, which could mean that its true "things do happen for a reason". Today in school i went back and talked to an old friend that hurt me dearly. And I knew if i asked for your advice you would say to just say what i need to say. Mr. Nemeth I am not going to say goodbye. Its more of a see you later type of thing. I know that I will see you. YOU WILL ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS be in my corazon. Rest In Peace.

Mr. Nemeth,
You were one of the most influential people in my life, whom I will never forget. I have so many memories of you, like the multiple times that we would chat after class and catch up on gossip, the free candy, the time you let me try the experiment on my arm with the flames, the fact that you encouraged me to study abroad by showing me your pictures of when you went to Spain-and how to forget the snowball fight! That day was a ton of fun. Its memories like these where I realize that to me you were more than just a teacher-you were a mentor, a friend and someone whom I could rely on. I still remember how we would always call or text each other on our birthday and how one of my most memorable one was when you said I was oxygen, because it has 8 neutrons, 8 electrons, and 8 protons-you always brightened my day!
You will be missed by all and the the Cristo Rey family will sure feel a gap of the amazing teacher who once was kind enough to share so many years with us.
We love you very much and will never forget you. May you rest in peace.

Mr. Nemeth,
You have touched so many lives and so many students. Know that we were all very honored to have known you. Like we've said, we fell in love with Chemistry because of you and your techniques. You will never be replace and in my heart you will always stay. I thank God, however, that I was one of the lucky ones to have met you. Thank you for all your help. Thank you for always believing in us and giving us that smile in which will never be forgotten. It is hard to know that you are no longer with us. But nevertheless, it will never be a "goodbye" but a "see you soon." So I say to you, Mr. Nemeth, see you soon and we shall reunite once more so you can keep teaching us your amazing methods. Thank you for also being a great friend. I miss you and will always cherish all you have taught us. Thank you for being a great person.
Love,

It has been a number of years but I will always remember "Nemo" as a good friend from college. I have great memories of listening to the Counting Crows in his dorm room and analyzing the lyrics over cheese and crackers. He introduced me to Ayn Rand which has had a lasting impact on me. Nemo will be missed but I am grateful that he was a part of my life for 4 important years.

A teacher a friend angelic like human being you once were. Now you are an angel looking down at us. I want to thank you for all those moments we had together. For never losing faith in me and keep me going on when I had no faith in myself. You were one of the few that I appreciated greatly in my life. You were very inspirational and will always be to me. I will remember and treasure every moment with you. I may cry a river now but I will try to smile because that's all you ever did. Not once did I see you mad or sad, you lighted up my day when I didn't want to be in school. But now you will light my day with the sun around me and at night with the most lighted stars. A great friend once told me this, quote, When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure. Although it's difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, May looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow. Jesse Alvarado still remembers when you shook his hand at prom and you said, you take care of Lupe he remembers chuckling after wards and than you said I'm not kidding. you always wanted the best for me, and I will do it. I want to achieve being a teacher no matter how hard I struggle because you conquered what you wanted for yourself and now I have to do the same. You are my REAL idol forever and ever you will stay in my heart. Love always class of 2010 Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, Lupe Valenzuela

Mr. Nemeth, God has truly taken an angel from earth. I can't seem to find the words to thank you and let you know how much you meant to me in my life. You shared the happiest moments with me and I will never forget all the help you offered when I felt lost and with no direction. I have lost a great friend but have won an angel to watch over me. Thank you for caring for Julia and making me feel like the best mom ever. You will be missed dearly. May you rest in peace. I love you.

Mr. Nemeth always brightened my day, not the fact that we would blow something up or use dangerous chemicals. He was a great teacher, great friend and an awesome mentor. Still can't believe that he is gone, but I know he is up there looking down on us laughing at the fact that we are making so much fuss. He was genuinely a one of a kind person, you would never find another Josh Nemeth again.

You realize how you take things for granted when you say you have a so called busy life. Mr. Nemeth you have touched and inspired many many people, including myself. You will continue to inspire people, and hopefully you continue teaching up in heaven...

Mr. Nemeth, It is sad to know that you are gone. Memories is what we all have to remember you by. I will always remember the time Irene, Jared, and I bumped into you at Oakbrook you had said you went to get your Ipod fixed, and the second thing you had said was any chismes? we would always share gossip. Now that you are gone we won't be able to have chisme time. Miss you dearly. It was an honor to have you as my teacher and a good friend.
