Lipien, Joseph L. Born September 20, 1956 Died June 3, 2017 Devoted husband of Deborah (Russell) Lipien; cherished nephew of Bernadette (Dzieginski) Creighton, Michalina (Lipien) Aksamit, Marys (Lipien) Woloszyn and Casey Dzieginski; dear son of the late John and late Mary (Dzieginski) Lipien; loving brother-in-law of Diane (Russell) and Richard Braun, late Thomas and Donna (Mulcahy) Russell, Robert Bradley Russell, Jr., and Christopher Russell; beloved uncle and cousin of many. Joe's love for aircraft led him to pursue a private pilot's license and to become an aircraft mechanic. He worked for Midway and Southwest Airlines for many years as an aircraft mechanic. He taught aircraft maintenance for five years at the American Airlines Maintenance Academy and was an adjunct instructor at Lewis University for several years, teaching Avionics. One of the high points of Joe's life was coordinating the repair of the Lewis University Boeing 737 landing gear and using this experience as a teachable moment for the Lewis maintenance students who worked with volunteer mechanics to execute the repairs. Joe was a Second Lieutenant in the Lewis University Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, as well as a member of the EAA, the EAA Warbirds, and the Commemorative Air Force. Very active in his Catholic faith, Joe has performed many ministries at St. Symphorosa and St. Francis of Assisi. Joe and his wife Debbie are both graduates of the Archdiocese of Chicago Lay Ministry Program (1999 and 1998 respectively.)
