Joseph Jachimiec Obituary

Jachimiec, Joseph J. 66, of Chippewa Falls, died of a stroke on Saturday, November 6, 2004 at Luther Hospital, Eau Claire in the arms of his family. He was born March 25, 1938 in Chicago, IL, the son of Joseph B. and Cecilia (Strojny) Jachimiec. He married Epifania Calo on October 12, 1968 in Chicago. He was a resident of Chippewa Falls for 25 years. Joseph often described himself as a "domestic engineer." He also was a printer, an automobile technician, all-around handyman, an activist for conservative causes and a pro-life supporter. Joseph grew up on the west side of Chicago, graduated from St. Roman Catholic School in 1951 and Harrison Technical High School in 1955. He attended the University of Illinois in Chicago. As a young man he worked for his father, Joseph B. at Lawler Printing Co., formerly 24th Street Press, before moving to Bozeman and Billings, Montana, in the 1970s, where he ran the printing department for Kampground of America. Joseph was also a ham radio operator, originally licensed as W9ZEX in the mid-1950s. His call sign in Wisconsin was W7KXD. He was a lifetime member of the American Radio Relay League. Joseph was a devoted family man. He championed conservative causes, including a deep faith in the traditional Latin Catholic Mass. He also had a lifelong appreciation for automobiles, beginning with a 1955 Chevrolet Bel-Air which he still owned. In March 2002, Joseph underwent a kidney transplant for polycystic kidney disease. He was proud that the donor was his son and would often say that he had "a '69 part in a '38 body." He is survived by his wife, Eppen; one son, Joseph(Jamie) of Minneapolis, MN; one daughter, Jessica Jachimiec, M.D. of Appleton, WI; two brothers, Thomas (Carol) of Arlington Heights, IL and Peter (Carole) of Chicago; one sister, Honore Ashcraft of Kansas City, MO; and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at St. Charles Church, Chippewa Falls. Rev. William Felix will be celebrant of the funeral Mass. Interment will be in Hope Cemetery, Chippewa Falls. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 9, and until 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Horan Funeral Home, Chippewa Falls. There will be a Christian Vigil Service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Disease, 9221 Ward Parkway, Suite 400, Kansas City MO 64114-3367. I can't tell you how much I will miss corresponding with Joe. It was a real treat to hear from him over the last few years since our first St. Roman reunion. We had been good friends in grammar school and shared many happy times, remembering our parent's friendship. He was a dear friend who worried about going to a place after death (purgatory). I believe that he is in a much better place than that. I'll never forget him.

Dear Mrs. Eppie Jachimiec & Family, you have my deepest sympathy for your recent heartache. Though Joe and I only corresponded at Christmas time, we kept our mutual interest in cars, especially Joe with his beloved '55 Chev..what a goer! I am an old drag racing friend of Joe's from the old neighborhood who enjoyed Joe's commentary on all things in life.

Please accept our condolences....

Dear Eppie and Family,

Please accept our deepest sympathy for your loss. We knew Joe as a child and young adult (we lived directly across the street from his family home). And we had the pleasure of visiting with you, Eppie, several times at our home in Park Ridge. We will remember Joe as a unique individual with great intellectual curiosity a good heart and fun to be around.
