Fobel Jr., Joseph John Joe Fobel, 84, died on August 5, 2010 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC. He was born on March 7, 1926 in Chicago, IL, son of the late Anna and Joseph John Fobel Sr. Joe, a U.S. Navy Veteran, was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds in action at Okinawa during World War II. After retiring from the City of Chicago Fire Department after 34 years of service, Joe enjoyed 16 golden years of retirement in Florida. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Port Charlotte, FL. Joe was a life-long baseball fan, taking in many games in both Chicago and during Spring Training in Florida. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Virginia, son Mark and his wife Jane and their children Peter and Lydia, all of Charlotte, NC, and by his sister Bess in Chicago, IL. A private memorial service was held at the Sardis Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC. Cremains will be interred at the Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC. The family expresses great appreciation to the staff of the Levine & Dickson Hospice House for their excellent and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Levine & Dickson Hospice House, 11900 Vanstory Drive, Huntersville, NC 28078. J.B. Tallent Funeral Service is assisting the family.
