Joseph Drumsta Obituary

Drumsta, Joseph M.

Joseph Michael Drumsta born October 7, 1941, passed away peacefully in his home in the presence of his family on February 10th, 2026. He was 84 years old, and the last surviving son of Joseph and Pauline Drumsta.

Joseph (Joe) was a Chicagoan, spending his early life in Bucktown on Dickens Avenue. Born to working class parents, he learned to value hard work, and continued through the end of his life. In his youth, he often spent time rebuilding and restoring cars and Whizzer Motor Bikes with his two younger brothers. He embodied the American dream, owning a machine shop that took a cameo in the Blues Brothers movie, and purchased a beautiful craftsman home in South Berwyn where he'd often enjoy watching thunderstorms against the backdrop of Proksa Park. He was a bargain hunter, often spending Sundays at Maxwell Street which was accompanied by the purchase of freshly made tamales from the tamale lady for an afternoon lunch. He was an avid consumer of daily news, often reading several newspapers from front to back as part of his routine. He was economically savvy, actively managing his own investments and had a deep understanding of financial markets, and taking advantage of opportunities in fixed income strategies until his final days.

An intimate memorial and celebration of life will take place on Tuesday, February 17th. He is survived by his wife Anna, daughter Cathy (Kyle), and his grandchildren Gabriel-Aaron, Dylan, and Delia. In lieu of flowers, donations to hospice charities such as Journey Care Hospice https://journeycare.org/donate/
