Truly a gentleman with a soft spoken manner framed by a friendly all inclusive sense of humor. Always with a smile and a welcoming way , Joe was a bright yet unassuming lover of life, wife and family and he is sorely missed. A great example of how to live your life with verve, kindness, and outright courtesy that I call on as I continue in my book of life.

Dear Marie, Amy and Beth,
What a tough year for all of you. Joe was such a positive and good humored gentleman. His love for his bride and daughters was always percolating just underneath the surface of any conversation. His laughter and easy smile made anyone to whom he spoke feel at ease and protected. In spite of his complex medical conditions over his last years he never rued his predicament, moreover he lived every day with zest, gusto, and joy. He made the most out of his life and despite his illness he would never allow you to feel sorry for him, rather he would pick up your spirit and focus his optimistic and affirmative attitude on your soul like a sunbeam on a dreary day. He always made you feel at ease while in his company and is a great testament to living your life with positive passion and an upbeat attitude. I will miss him but feel very lucky that I will still be able to visit with the legacy he left his wife, his daughters, and his grandsons. When I am blessed with their company I will feel his presence and be at peace. Our prayers are with you during this time of anguish but be buoyed by his eternal spirit that is in each one of you.

Dear Marie and Family:
Joe and I were great friends at Notre Dame, kidding about being long-lost brothers. We shared a few e-mails in recent years, remembering old times. He often spoke of his family, too, always with love.

Marie,
We dearly love you & Joe!!!!! He is with you & you are with him too. Lean on the rest of us anytime until it is time for you two to be reunited. He is & was a soldier of our Lord & God, & we forever will know he spread God's love & is a part of us too. He too loved & cared for so many sparrows. The trinity will take care of all of you & your needs.

Joe was doing what he loved doing. So often we met throughout the country while attending athletic competition - you could "expect" to SEE Joe and Marie in attendance. Our prayers are with you, Marie. We have lost a dear friend.
