Dear Alexandra,
I am so very sorry to hear of the death of your dear dad, Joseph. You may recall that you dad, mom, you and I dined together many years ago when you lived in the grey stone on the 1400 block of Bell Ave.
I recall your mom slaving all day to prepare meals for us impatient children as we all awaited your dad's return from work.
As tired as he was your dad always greeted all of us with a spry and hearty hello followed by a prayer of thanksgiving.
Because you and I were "coming of age" children I can tell you now that I was always afraid of your dad as the imposing figure that he was at that time.
As time went along I found your dad to actually be an extremely cordial and nice person. His real personality was particularly evident during a luncheon together at Henricci's Restaurant. Do you recall that we all walked and rode the old CTA bus during what seemed to be the hottest day of the year.
With me wearing a 100% wool jacket that day, I remember your dad feeling my sport coat and saying that this coat would last forever because it was pure wool. Your mom of course, looked at the stitching and indicated that the coat was made by a very fine seamstress as only she would of course know!
I hope and trust that you will find strength in my writing and reminiscing of those events above. Sometimes solace comes in many forms. Hopefully you will find the above to be instrumental during the loss of your very dear dad and bring peace to your heart.
Should you wish to contact me for any reason whatsoever, please feel free to do so at [email protected]
Sincerely,
Your previous neighbor at 1451 and 1449 N. Bell Ave.
