Wynn, John "Johnny"
John W. Wynn ("Johnny") passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at the age of 84 in Chicago, Illinois at Northwestern Memorial Hospital with his wife Jo Anne Bruzgul at his side. John was blessed to be a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many.
On February 15, 1940, he was born in Sydney, Australia to Alice and William Wynn. Before emigrating to Chicago in 1989, John, a pilot, owned a flight school in Camden, New South Wales, Australia. He received his M.B.A. in Sydney. At the age of 15, he started his apprenticeship in the same shipyard where his father worked. He went on to be a successful salesman, owner of an importing business and later found his passion as a trader in the futures market.
John met his wife Jo Anne in Chicago at the East Bank Club during an early morning tennis drill group in 1994. They married during a family cruise on February 25, 1999 in Key West, Florida. In addition to his wife, John is survived by his two daughters, Sharon Costello of Sydney, Australia, and Jennifer Constable of Newcastle, Australia, four grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren, all of whom greatly miss him.
John was an accomplished sailor in both Sydney and Chicago having completed several Mackinac Races. He loved to read mysteries and other novels, watch Star Trek and NCIS, and spend time with his friends and family. As a real estate broker, he sold properties is both Illinois and Wisconsin. In April 2023 he became a citizen of the United States in addition being an Australia citizen– a man of two countries.
John will be remembered as a kind, loving person by everyone who knew him. He enriched the lives of all who knew him. John's joyful spirit and kind personality will live on in our memories of him. He was vibrant and cared deeply for the welfare of others. He will be sorely missed by many, especially by the family he so cherished.
Please join us in a celebration of John's life on Saturday June 15, 2024 at The LaSalle Street Church, 1136 N. LaSalle Street, Chicago, IL 60610 at 11:00 A.M. We will receive a blessing from the Rev. Thomas S. Dickelman and listen to vocalist Megon McDonough's inspirational songs.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in John Wynn's name to The Salvation Army an organization that John remembered took good care of his Uncle Tom Griffiths during World War II.
