Happy 85th dad. They're celebrating the 70th anniversary of D-day today, the day you turned 15. I guess that means on the 75th anniversary you would have been 90. I wish you had made it until then. I am going to do my best to be there for the 75th anniversary celebration. I think it's the least I can do for all my uncles who fought in WWII. We still miss you.

PS Uncle Ang fella few days short of the 70th anniversary. He died this past week.

Dad,

Hard to believe it has been three years since we lost you. I know you would like to know that Mom is doing great. Auntie Midge passed away last year about Thanksgiving. Uncle Dom seems to be doing pretty well. Rest peacefully Dad.

All our love,

Dad,

I will wish you Happy Father's Day and Happy 80th birthday. I actually wished you a happy 80th on your birthday but apparently it didn't take. I apologize for that. We really missed you on that day. I never thought you would be gone before then and it was hard to think about it on your day. Happy Father's day to a wonderful father and wonderful man. We still miss you Dad.

All our love.

Dad, an amazing thing happened last week and we know you would have loved it. A US Airways flight had to be aborted and the pilot landed the plane on the Hudson River. He did it and everyone survived. Finally pilots may now be seen as worth what they get paid. Unfortunately, its newsworthiness lasted only a few days. we know you could have pulled off that landing too.

By the way, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Dad. Sorry we forgot.

Love you,

the boys

Dear Dad,

Merry Christmas. We really miss you. Everyone seemed to be okay, but I don't know what they were thinking. It just wasn't the same without our Santa Claus. Mom seemed to have a nice time, but I don't know how she was feeling inside. I sure wish you were still here. It just isn't as easy without you.

God bless you Dad. I hope you are doing well wherever you are.

All our love,

the boys

John and I were friends since Navy pre-flight at NAS Pensacola class 20-50 and then on to TWA where we were friends throughout our TWA careers. We have kept in touch through e-mails ever since our retirement. You will be deeply missed my friend and I will never forget you.

John and I first met in Pensacola in 1950 where we were classmates in U.S. Navy Preflight Class 20-50. What a good man! And what good times we had. I feel honored to have been his friend. I will miss him.

Upon returning home from my Father-in-laws (Robert Cole) burial Saturday, we heard the news of Mr. Whitten's passing. Both my husband and I remember him well from the Hanger One meeting we attended years ago. Our deepest sympathies go to the entire family, and all of his Naval family as well.

John was a great leader of the Glenview Hangar One Foundation at a critical point in its history. He is very fondly remembered by members of that organization and all who worked with him over the years. He will be sorely missed.

Bernice & Family,
We were deeply saddened to have learned of John's sudden passing. We live four houses down from you and we often walk with our three puppies. We always stopped to chat with John since he was always working in the yard or walking his son's dog. He reminded me of my Dad so very much, and I always felt a sense of warmth just seeing him as we passed by. He will be missed & we will always see him as we pass by. Another one of the Greatest Generation has left us.

There is something that draws adventurers to the sky. The two of us shared that same adventure. John was my friend. We will miss him.
