My sympathies to the family. I knew John when he first came over from Greece in the 1950s. He and his mom lived with his aunt and uncle next door to me and my family on 766 W. Vernon Park Place in Chicago which was Greek Town at the time. He use to play softball with me and my sister and brother. He was a few years older than us but we had a lot of fun with him. We moved from there to the south side of Chicago near Midway and lost track of him. I will always remember that he was a great softball player and especially a good batter and a lot of fun. I am sorry he passed so young. I can't remember his aunt's last name but her first name was Goldie. My maiden name was Balaskas and my grandfather John and grandma Effie are buried in Elmwood. I will pay my respects at his grave the next time I am there. I am sorry for the loss. My sympathy to his mom.

It was an honor and pleasure to meet with John at St. Benedict's during the past month on Saturdays. He was always cheerful and appreciated our visits. He enjoyed talking about his Mother, God-Daughter, and best friend, Nick. He also shared his Vietnam experiences with Jim, a fellow Vietnam veteran. Mrs. Vrettos is in our prayers.
