John Schaller Obituary

Schaller, John J. "Jack" Age 63. He entered eternal rest April 23, 2012 at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home as the result of complications from liver failure. He is survived by his wife of thirty-six years, Melissa (nee Stanclik) Schaller; his father, Jack Schaller; his sons, Brad and Jack Schaller; his daughter, Samantha (Brian) Manering; his grandsons, Brian "Scotty" and Ben Manering; his brothers, Jimmy (Michelle) and Jay Schaller; his sisters, Jill (Mickey) Nolan, Sue (Leo) Weber, Colleen (Jack) Sheehan, Betty Jo (Bob) Bailey, and Kim (George) Shinnick; and, his brother-in-law, Ed (Sheryl) Stanclik. He is also survived by ten nieces, seven nephews, two great-nieces, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, Godchildren, and friends. Jack was preceded in death by his mother, Betty (nee McCormick) Schaller; his sons, John and Kyle; and, his in-laws Edward and Anna Stanclik. A lifelong Sox and Bears fan, Jack was raised on the Southside of Chicago. He graduated from St. Ignatius College Prep, and he later enlisted in the Army and was a soldier in Vietnam. Upon returning from the war, Jack graduated from Illinois State University and began a brief career as a junior high teacher and football coach. While working at Gompers Junior High, Jack met and later married Melissa Stanclik. With his wife's support, he attended Lewis University and pursued his dream of becoming a lawyer, a career he held most of his adult life. Notably, Jack became a prosecutor for the Grundy County States Attorney's office in 1994 and remained until his retirement in June of 2010. An avid golfer, Jack played the area courses regularly making many friends along the way. Throughout all of these stages of life, Jack could not go anywhere without seeing a familiar face and sharing one of his funny stories. A member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion Post 1080, and the Will County Irish American Society, Jack will be remembered for his humor and larger than life personality; his pride in his family and his father's bar, Schaller's Pump; and, his devotion to his first grandson, Scotty. Jack will be missed by many and forgotten by none. A memorial to celebrate Jack's life will be held Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 7:00 pm. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at Tezak's Home to Celebrate Life. Cremation rites to be accorded and private burial at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack's name to his favorite charity Angels of Hope, 220 West Main Street, Suite 300, Morris, Illinois 60450 or to Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, Illinois 60431 would be appreciated.

"Uncle Jack" will be sorely missed by all of us. He was godfather to my daughter and they shared a special bond that she has with no other.
I will always remember his wonderful smiling eyes and sense of humor. Wherever Jack was there was happiness and laughter and a feeling of warmth and caring.I feel honored to have had him and all of you as a part of our family for so many years. Know that all of you will continue to be in my prayers.

I knew Jack when he worked for the Grundy County States Attorney's Office. I was an investigator for DCFS and had cases that went through his office. He was very easy to deal with and a lot of fun to talk to. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. May God bless your family during this time.

I haven't seen Jack since my time at Gompers. He was always a bright spot. While I know there are no words that can help, I read something last night that may extend some comfort. "What the caterpillar calls the end of life, the Master calls the butterfly." We will be praying for comfort that only God can give.

Jack, I have never known you personally. However, you are my Bridget's uncle and Godfather. As a Godmother myself, I understand the special bond between Godparent and 'child. Having never known my own, I also understand the pain that can come from that absence. I understand that Bridget is hurting right now, but the bond that you two shared during your time here can never be erased. In fact, Bridget now has an extra special angel watching over her from Heaven. I wish you a very peacful eternal life and send my condolences to your loved ones. R.I.P.

I haven't seen Jack in a long time but have thought of him along the way. I'm glad to say that he was one of the good friends in my life. I'll remember the smiles and laughter and the talks on sports, sports, and more sports. May the memory of the happiness he brought to so many lives be of comfort to his family and friends.
