John A.Oremus is the man I will always be proud to call "Grandpa." I feel so fortunate to have been a part of his life and the legacy he leaves behind him. The most important lesson I learned from Grandpa is that of respect. Grandpa respected everyone, and in return he was one of the most respected men I have ever known. Until we meet again Grandpa...I love and respect you always.

As 32 year residents of Bridgeview, John Oremus was the only Mayor we knew. He was a "hands on " mayor before the term became popular and he was always present for affairs at St. Fabian's Parish. His legacy is everywhere around the Village.

My deepest condolences to all the Oremus family. Although I never personally met the mayor, my brother Dave Montez and my late father David J Montez had the pleasure of working for him. When my father died he was there to help my mother. He was a very kind man who never forgot where he started and was always great to everyone. He did so much for the village that you were proud to say you lived there. May you find comfort in your memories which is one of the things no one can take away. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

John Oremus was an extremely warm, gentle, and friendly man. He immediately put you at ease when you met him. He always had a smile on his face. I knew him through his daughter Dorothy who is my best friend. His principled life will live on through his children and grandchildren. I feel fortunate indeed to have known him. He will surely be missed by all who knew him. God speed gentle man.
