John Olsen Obituary

Olsen, John B. Age 69, of Oak Lawn, IL died suddenly and unexpectedly on March 22, 2020. Loving and caring husband of 44 years to Judi (nee Hart); beloved father of Greg (special friend Hillary) and Adrienne (John Garvin) and adoring and doting grandfather of Jack, Ella and Nathan Garvin; brother of Bruce (Elaine), uncle of Tim (Kristin) and Eric; great-uncle of Isabelle Olsen; son of the late Bernard and June (nee Engstrom) Olsen; also survived by uncles Leo and Paul Engstrom. John will be missed by many cousins and countless friends, especially David Couick. A dedicated 30-year employee of Walgreen Co. as chief pharmacist. John was an avid Chicago White Sox and Blackhawks fan. He enjoyed spending time at the original family homestead on the Kankakee River in Momence, IL. John was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and was very active in the military collectibles community. He was truly a great man and our hearts are broken. No services will be held due to the current health crisis. A memorial and celebration of life will be held at a later date. Have known John for many years at the SOS and OGCA shows. He was of the nicest collectors I have had the pleasure to have done business with and have known over the years. Always had a big smile on his face, and enjoyed talking about his passions in the hobby. Such a great man. God Bless you my friend.

John and his younger brother Bruce grew up together with me and of course others, but still remember john well. We as young men went our separate ways over the years
but I was fortunate enough to meet him of all places a barbershop waiting to get a hair cut. My memories of him is he was always a straight and forward guy and tried to do the right thing.a "GOD FEARING "Pearson and had no vices! May GOD PROTECT AND BLESS HIS SOUL"!!

It was with shock and deepest sadness that I found out about John's passing. As a fellow pharmacist John and I would sit beside each other at times in the pharmacy manager's meetings at Walgreens. He was a kind self-spoken soul. He practiced his profession that he loved with the upmost perfection. His compassion and empathy for his patients was second to none. I am so happy that I was so privileged to spend my time on several occasions with John and Ken Haydek, when we periodically did our "guy thing" by meeting periodically at Chesdan"s restaurant in Homer Glen. The three of us would talk for hours on various topics. Though John's life was cut short, and pain of John's passing is real and there are no words to ease how you,the family feel, but be rest assured John ran the race called life. To us it was too soon and it was, but he ran the race in record time and grabbed the brass ring. He is the ultimate winner now and is in a far better place than we are. I am sure he was a winner as a husband, father, and friend as well. My deepest condolences. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

John and I graduated from pharmacy school together in 1986. During our careers at Walgreens we would both complain about the multiple flu clinics we had to schedule as we were both pharmacy managers.I remember after graduation,John invited us up to the homestead by the Kankakee river to celebrate. We camped out and had a big bonfire.John was talking to me with his back turned to the fire and screamed out at Gregory, to get away from the fire without turning around.I was amazed at how he knew that, but, it didn't surprise me. I am so sorry to hear of his passing My prayers are with you and your family at this most difficult time.
