It has been some time since I had the chance to think about the old days; "Okie" is very much a part of those memories. He was always soft spoken and respectful, a great deal of fun to be around. His memory will continue on in the hearts of those left behind.

Dear O'Connell Family,

I am still in shock and very saddened by John's (a/k/a Oakie's) passing, as I am sure you are as well. I can still see him with that huge, beautiful smile on his face! I always want to remember him that way. He was one of my closest friends for many years and will be missed terribly. Oakie and I shared many happy and challenging times together and I know him as having an especially kind heart - no matter with what he struggled in his life, he never hesitated to reach out to help another. God Bless you, John, and your family, too! I love you!

Your Friend, Eileen ("Araiyai")

March 2, 2006

Dear O'Connell Family,

My childhood is filled with many happy memories of my pal John; aka Okie, Jud, & Jodi. Whether we were throwing snow balls, playing little league baseball, or getting yelled at by an OLW teacher, one thing was certain - it was a blast having him by my side! I'm grateful that I ran into John and had the chance to catch-up two Thanksgivings ago when I was in from San Diego. We shared many laughs that night reminiscing -just what you'd expect hanging with Okie. We parted with hugs and smiles - just the way I'd like to remember him.

I am truly sorry for your loss.

With love,

Bill Thompson
