Meersman, John Francis
John Francis Meersman, 84, of Vero Beach, FL passed away Thursday, September 16, 2021. John died at home in the care of his loving wife Donna. John was born in Chicago. IL to the late Francis and Celestine (nee DeGraves) Meersman. He spent his early years in the Chicago area and following high school at St. George in Evanston IL, he attended Loyola University in Chicago where he earned his Bachelors' Degree in Accounting. This led him to a career which began with ten years at the IRS and then 25 years in management at National Tea Company where he was the Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer. It was only 24 years ago that John and his beloved wife Donna (nee Binder) moved to Vero Beach from St. Louis, MO. He continued to work remotely for Loblaw Companies on boards and managing pension plans. John was an avid life-long golfer. There was no place he enjoyed more than Indian River Club where he was a resident and member and where he was often referred to as "the Mayor." He always put his family first in everything, travelling far and wide to always be there. John humbly served as a eucharistic minister at St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Donna M. Meersman, children John Michael (Julie) Meersman of St. Louis, MO, Hollis (Stuart) Huels of St. Louis, MO, Mark (Christie) Meersman of Cumming, GA, Matthew (Carrie) Meersman of Cumming, GA, and sixteen loving grandchildren - Madison, Hailey, Jack, Joe, Ben, Sarah, Colin, Jacob, Tyler, Matthew, Andrew, Michael and Elizabeth Meersman, as well as Emmaline, Nora and Jonathon Huels. He was preceded in death by a brother Robert Meersman. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Helen Catholic Church 2000 20th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960 in memory of John Meersman. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM, Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach. A Funeral Mass celebrating his life will begin at 10 AM, Monday, September 20, 2021 at St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach. Arrangements by Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach, Florida.
