John Jameson Obituary

CAMDEN - Dr. John Broadus Jameson, Jr., 82, passed away December 29,2008. He was born August 24, 1926 in Camden, Arkansas to the late John B. and Margaret S. Jameson. As a lifetime resident of Camden, he was a devoted physician and family man.

After serving his country as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army, he graduated from Tulane Medical School in 1952. While attending school in New Orleans, he met the love of his life, Thelma. He established a practice in general surgery in 1956 and was Chief of Surgery for many years at Ouachita County Hospital. He was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Southwestern Surgical Board. Of few of his civic duties included serving on the Camden School Board and as a Deacon of First Baptist Church.

His favorite hobby was flying airplanes and his passion led him to serve as a fixed base operator for the Camden Municipal Airport. He had a vision to put his beloved town on the map by starting an airline, Jamaire, along with his wife. For a number of years, this airline flew to Dallas and Memphis, primarily to service the developing industrial area in East Camden. After his retirement in 1983, he and Thelma traveled extensively in their motor home. Those who knew him will always remember his feisty personality and wonderful, boisterous laugh.

Dr Jack is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 53 years, Thelma Catherine Jameson. He is survived by his brother Dr. William Jameson and wife Bobbie of Tucson, AZ; his son Dean and wife, Valerie of Memphis, TN; daughter Catherine Prichard and husband, Jeff of Camden; daughter Karen Rush and husband, Lonnie of Dallas, TX; son John and wife, Sandra of Chicago, IL; grandchildren Corey, Brittany, Sarah and Brody of Memphis and Alicia, Joshua and Brock of Chicago.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, January 3, at First Baptist Church Camden with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. Richard Piles will officiate the service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund and The Salvation Army. To sign the online register visit www.proctorfuneralhome.com. Proctor Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Sorry to hear of Dr. Jack's passing. I started at Jamaire in 1981 after my initial "interview" with Dr. Jack, which consisted of small chat in the back of a Cessna 402 on the way to Memphis, TN. He and Mrs.Thelma made for a great family atmosphere while I worked there for three years. A good many professional pilots launched their careers while flying for Dr. Jack. We will keep you in our prayers.

I want to send words of sympathy and also of remembrance. Dr. Jameson (Sr) sat on the back of the old FBC all during my upbringing. And my Dad fished with the boys (Bill and Jack) as they grew up. I have fond memories of Margaret, also. Thelma and family, we send our sympathy. I loved the picture!

My thoughts are with each of you. You all were such an important part of my life in Camden. I have so many fond memories of each of you and your parents. I can never forget the day I dislocated my finger at football practice. The coach turned away ill. Dr. Jameson took one look at it laughed and yanked it back into place and told me to get back out there. So many more good memories. My deepest sympathies and best thoughts go to you.

My daughter and I were just talking about 'Dr. Jack' a couple of days ago. My parents thought he hung the moon. He was not in it for the MONEY, as he really 'cared' for his patients. I can remember many times, he would have them meet him at his office, so they wouldn't have to pay that high bill at the hospital. :)
He was one FINE Dr. and man and Camden will certainly miss him.
I loved his little giggle, but who didn't?
Please keep his precious memories close to you and may God and friends help you through this difficult time.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.

What a wonderful picture of your father. That's how I remember him. He took care of our family and we trusted his medical advice implicitly. He gave me no time to rethink having my first proctoscopy with a 15 minute prep! I can hear him chuckling now.

Camden has a huge hole in its heart as do all who knew him. Mother and I send our most heartfelt sympathy.
