John Imarisio Obituary

Imarisio, John J. Age 90, of Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully on April 2 at The Breakers at Edgewater, an independent living community where he resided since May of 2007. Born September 8, 1922, in New York City, NY, the only child of Daniel and Ida Imarisio, John spent his formative years in New York City. He is a graduate of NYU.Upon return from serving our Country in WWII, he pursued education in dentistry. John changed his major because of his love of medicine and graduated from New York University Medical School in 1950. His medical school internship was done in Upper New York State. Dr. Imarisio served our country a second time between 1952 and 1956. He was awarded a Bronze Star Medal for his Korean War service on the front lines in 1953 while Regimental Surgeon, 180thInfantry Regiment. Dr. Imarisio was honorably discharged as First Lieutenant from the Medical Corps 45thDivision, US Army. At the outset, Dr. Imarisio opened a private practice in Westchester County, New York specializing in Internal Medicine. He was also the attending physician at the Statler Hilton Hotel in New York City. He subsequently specialized in Nuclear Medicine and research, first in Cincinnati and settled in Chicago where he was Chief, Nuclear Medicine at the VA Hospital.He also was connected with Northwestern University Medical School and Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Dr. Imarisio had a deep appreciation for classical music, history, art, and architecture. Dr. Imarisio was preceded in death by his loving wife, Aili Imarisio. He is survived by his ever-caring cousin, Janet Bocskai of Delray Beach, FL; his close friend, Daniel Aregoni of Chicago; his dedicated caregiver since August 2007, Joe Odo; his extended family, and his many dear friends. Visitation will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, April 9, at the Nelson Funeral Home located at 5149 North Ashland Avenue, Chicago, IL 60640(773-561-5147).Burial will be at the Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be directed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital Foundation for scientific discovery.
