I remember working with John a few times in the 018th District. I had just gotten out of
Marines, and I can still remember john telling me about his time in the Airborne. This was in about 1967. He was really a good police officer, and I learned a few things from John.
God bless you John, I know you are up there patrolling the streets of Heaven.

Our sympathies to the Guswiler family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of great sadness. It was an honor to work for Bill Guswiler in the 014 / CCNSF and a pleasure knowing Nancy during my time with the narcotics section. I did not know John personally but I have no doubt he was as great a person as Bill and Nancy.

Nancy and Christine,

Our prayers are with you both at this most sad time. Remembering your dad walking the neighborhood all these years and seeing him every day still walking was truly amazing. He was a wonderful and kind man who will never be forgotten on hood Ave. All our love goes out to you both. Stay strong as we know how you both are feeling right now.

Goodbye to my uncle, Johnny Gus.
To the man who demonstrated love in his fierce protection of his family, his community, his city. Courageous and strong, he was the best of the best. He leaves behind his courage and strength in his daughters, Nancy and Chris.

The angels are safer now and no one will be getting through St. Peter's gate who doesn't belong!

Goodbye, Johnny and thanks for all of your love!

My condolences to the GUSWILER Family.
My favorite remembrance of John was from A#6 Western & Belmont.
I arrived there in 1982 and was instructed in the Art of Detecting by
the Senior Detectives in the Area.
At one point we were getting ready to turn in our old ID cards.
John taped a photo of John WAYNE to his ID card.
One day someone DEMANDED to see John's ID.
So John showed him his, with the photo of John WAYNE on it.
The guy looked at the ID, seeing John WAYNE's photo, didn't say a word, and walked away.
Those Senior Detectives of A#6 were a bunch of fun loving guys and good Detectives.

Retired Detective A#6/3

I had the great luck to work with John over the years and what a great police officer and just a good all around guy he was. I consider myself lucky to know a lot of the Gusweiler family even Nancy back when she was a kid. Great family may John rest in a well deserved peace. My Condolences to the Gusweiler family.

God bless John, and his Family. He is a legendary CPD Hero - the only "Police Medal" recipient I know. He made his mark early on, continuing to build his awesome reputation throughout his colorful career. He taught many officers and detectives to be safe and effective. He is well loved and is already missed. I know John best through the Damen & Grace, then Belmont & Western, Area 6 years. And Nancy continue the tradition.... Bill, hold the family close.
