Farbak, John E. beloved husband of the late Geraldine (nee Shoemaker), loving father of John E. (Vivian) Farbak Jr., Mary (Richard) Layton, Robert A. (Rita) Farbak, Joyce (Jeffrey) Atkinson and James D. Farbak, dear grandfather of ten and great-grandfather of seven. Visitation 3 to 9 p.m., Friday, at the John Sheehy & Sons Funeral Home, 7020 W. 127th St., Palos Heights. Lying-in-state Saturday, 9 a.m. until time of service 10 a.m., at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 7800 McCarthy Rd., Palos Heights. Interment First Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Good Shepherd Church or the Cancer Support Center, 2028 Elm Rd., Homewood, IL, 60430, would be appreciated. 708-361-4235To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

I still think about you Grandpa and the love and warmth that you imparted upon us as children. The fire flies at night would light up and being from California, these were foreign to us. I loved catching them in your back yard. I loved the train rides with you in Chicago and I loved that you stocked the sodas in the fridge in the basement. What a cool Grandpa! I wish I could have lived closer to you so I could have known you better. My Mom says you were the best Dad ever and I believe that from my interactions with you. I hope you and Grandma are preparing a place for us when we see you again. I love you, Jeff
