EG 101 and 102 were the most enjoyable courses that IIT had to offer only because of the wonderful caring professor, John Dygdon. Climbing up five flights of stairs to the top of Old Main was something I couldn't do now, but I would gladly if I could see my favorite professor once more. We knew him when he wasn't listed as editor on that big green heavy book. When he was listed on it after we were gone, I felt it was an honor long due him.
Over the years I have always made it a point to see him and talk to him even if it was only for a short time. Hearing his wisdom and care was always what I needed.
I hope that somewhere the little wooden Viking statuette with the "lead point spear" that we gave him was always with him. It was there in his desk every time I visited the campus.
Now everything is "computer" and the course is a boring version called CAD. But thanks to "Daddy" Dygdon, I can still draw anything in three dimensions from any side, FREEHAND!
I am selfish enough to say that I will miss him terribly, so I know that his wonderful family that he always spoke so highly of does too. My deepest sympathy to them and my heart goes out to you.

Our sympathies on your loss. As a young drafting teacher at John F. Kennedy High School, John hired me for a part time teaching position of engineering graphics at IIT. It was an experience that always looked good on my resume.
At least two of John's children, Johnnie & Susan, were also students of Mrs. Wiberg at the L. Frank Baum Elementary School.
We were blessed to have some of the Dygdon's in our classes.

I am deeply sorry for your loss. When I was a senior at Lane Tech High School in 1968, I was fortunate to have won the Chicagoland drawing contest and a full scholarship for my first year at IIT. My professors, Hill and Novak taught from Professor Dygdon's text book and I was able to make a career with technical drawing and design. I now teach shop at the Institute of Design, IIT. I am thankful for my education. My condolences to his family. Edward Koizumi

John and I were classmates at St. Ann grade school in Chicago in the 1930s, and remained good pals after that. Years later, we would run into each other occasionally and reminisce about the old times. I'm sorry to learn of his passing. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

Please accept my deep sympathy at the loss of your father. He was my professor at IIT and he made a difference in my life.
