John Crane Obituary

Crane, John J. Age 54, of Chicago, died on September 25, 2015, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. John was the cherished and devoted husband of Karen (nee Lynn), the love of his life; and adoring daddy and bestest buddy to their son, Johnny, age 2, who passed away in 2011 from complications following a stem cell transplant. John was a loving son of Nancy (nee McCabe) and the late Edward J. Crane; and dear brother of Pat (John) Scully, the late Martin, the late Thomas (Karen), Edward (Judy), and Carolyn (Mark) Boyich. He had four adult children, Bridget, Katelyn, Erin, Kelly of Evergreen Park. He was a cheerful and beloved uncle, cousin and friend to members of the Crane, Scully, Boyich, Mitchell, Lynn and Clifford families. A lifelong Chicagoan, John was an enthusiastic alumnus of St. Bede School and St. Laurence High School. A proud union Operating Engineer and member of IUOE Local 399 for nearly 25 years, John was employed by the City of Chicago Department of Water Management, where he felt privileged and fortunate to work alongside the talented and affable men and women at the Jardine Water Purification Plant. John's loyalty and affection for his friends, both old and new, was legendary; at work or at play, he was easily one of the most likable and good-natured guys one could know. Memorial visitation Sunday from 1 p.m. - 7 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to support Stem Cell Research at Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, Attn: Tribute Program, 225 East Chicago Avenue, Box 4, Chicago, IL 60611.
