John Brown Obituary

Brown, Dr. John Bardon "Bard"

Dr. John Bardon "Bard" Brown age 94 of Crete, IL passed away on Thursday, January 06, 2022. He is survived by his wife Mary C. Brown (nee McQuaid) of over 60 years; children James (Linda) Brown, Daniel (Susan) Brown, Thomas Brown, John (Nancy) Brown and Catherine (Chris) Beres; grandchildren Amanda, Austin, Julie, Ryan, Nora, Molly, Matthew, Claire, Christopher, Natalie, Josie, Patrick, William, and George; great grandchildren Jacob and Ayden. Funeral services will be held at a later date, with burial at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Dr. Brown was born in Chicago on April 22, 1927, to Ambrose and Lillian Brown. Dr. Brown graduated from Mt. Carmel High School, Class of 1944. Graduating from Loyola Dental School in 1953, he went on to practice dentistry for over 40 years. He was a World War II Veteran (Army), and then a Navy Reserve Captain with over 30 years of service. In 1955, he met his future bride who lived across the street. Bard and Mary married in 1959. They lived in the South Shore neighborhood of Chicago until moving to Crete in 1971. Dr. Brown was a member of the Holy Name Society of Saint Liborius Parish, the American Dental Association, Chicago Dental Society, and Illinois Dental Society. Traveling was a passion of his. Some of his trips included biking through Ireland, mission work in Bolivia, hiking through the Swiss Alps, and countless other adventures with Mary. He enjoyed tennis, Turner Classic Movies, and being a southside Cubs fan. In 1993, he survived a bike vs. car accident, suffering a severe head injury. Miraculously, he made a full recovery and continued his love of bicycling with rides up and down the streets of Crete through the Fall of 2021. Family vacations to South Haven, Michigan were near and dear to his heart. He cherished this time spent at the lake with his family. He enjoyed the title of Grandpa and everything it entailed. Bard was truly well loved and respected, and will be missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions be made to Community Outreach P.O. Box 74 Steger, IL 60475. For more information, please call White Funeral Home at 219-924-4100, or visit us at www.whitefuneralhomeofgriffith.com

So sorry to learn of Bards passing belatedly. Bard was a great connection to my dads South Shore family and was a great storyteller. My sister has done quite a lot genealogy about the Bardon family lately and we spoke about Bard not knowing he had passed. All my best to your family.

So sorry to hear this news. I first met John at the Park Forest Racquet Club in the Sunday Men´s Singles league around 1976, and he became my dentist a few years after that. As a fellow Crete resident, I often saw him riding his bike around the neighborhood over the last 20 years. It´s customary when someone dies to say what a great person they were, but it´s truly hard to imagine a nicer man than Doc John Brown. Condolences to Dan and the family.
