Dear Serajean and family!

I just learned today of John's passing. Almost one year to the day. You may not remember me but I was John's roommate and friend in college at Creighton. In addition, we played in a band for a few years in college. He was the best man at my Greek wedding in 1970 and is godfather to my son, Tony. Over the years, we lost track of each other but I thought often of John and hoped his life was good. I am deeply saddened that I did not keep contact. I heard wonderful things about him tonite. My prayers are with him and you.

He will be missed dearly.

Sera, my heart goes out to you and to Jim and Joe in Milwaukee and Marilyn and Joe. As I was raised with John, Jim and Joe and spent most every other weekend of my life in Milwuakee along with my brother Ray, after their father died this is as if I lost my brother. If anyone could have two mothers, Aunt Florence was just that for me. You and John have been there for me as I will always be here for you. Your family and mine go back well before our births and a piece of me went with Johnny. I loved Johnny and I will miss him. Edward Venetucci Janz.

Dear Serajean and family:

I wanted to again express my heartfelt sympathy to you and your family. I will always remember John as a truly generous and kind man. I met John when I was an unemployed new attorney and he would give me some business until I was able to find a permanent job with the Public Defender. He continued to show his kindness every year when he would give me tickets to one Cubs game so I could have a special outing with my boys. He always asked how they were doing and he remembered them when the Packers won the Super Bowl with hats and programs. I will cherish the memories of the Cubs game as well as the invitation to the Hawks game for my parents. He will be missed but he will always be in my heart. I will cherish and remember the smile he had on the day of Marilyn's wedding and how proud he was of each of you when he spoke that night. May God comfort you and your family today and always.

My sincere condolences go out to the Alioto family at this time. While having experienced the pleasure and honor of meeting John on only one occasion, it was a privilege that I will always remember. Though his great love and deep knowledge of the law was obvious to anyone he spoke to, it was John's abilities to converse on a very wide range of other topics that are foremost when I think of him. How can you ever forget someone who can sit and talk about family,Georgetown,Alfa Romeros, the Packers and yes, even the Bears while at the same time being surrounded by hundreds of law books? John was truly a most interesting individual and a nice person as well. Once again my condolences to the family on their great loss.
