Dear Cal, Nancy, Michael, and Family

It has been been my pleasure to work with Joan over the last nineteen years as she chose gifts in our store with love and pleasure for her family. I will truly miss seeing her come in our door and making me feel as though having a small business in Highland Park was a great choice in life to have made for my husband and me.
Her intelligence, warmth, honesty, sriking looks, great taste and velvet voice made her a Highland Park icon. She has left a big footprint, but no doubt taught her loved ones well enough to fill it.
Thank you Joan for sharing your life with us. We are here to share with your family and the community as we continue on. It has been our honor to be part of your life, and we hope to continue in our role.
With love and peace, Diana and Robert Schaps

I came to know Joan while helping her choose gifts for her wonderful family. She would always put a smile on our faces when she walked into Citywoods. Her sense of humor, enthusiasm for life and appreciation for family and her grandchildren, made her a wonderful woman to know and one that I admired. My heartfelt wishes go out to Cal and the entire Tobin family that her strength and spirit will help you at this difficult time.

Joan was a special person. Her energy and lively spirit was quite a positive force at Literacy Chicago. She made a difference in so many lives there and it was such an honor to have gotten to know her, in the past decade.
I will miss her and my deepest sympathy goes out to Cal and Michael. I am sorry that I am out of town for the services. Joan will be remembered fondly by many.

Our deepest sympathies to Cal, Nancy & Howard, Michael & Nancy, the kids/grandchildren and entire family on this loss. Joan will be missed for many reasons, and for us including her sense of humor, energy and enthusiasm -- especially as a supportive HPHS "Bandstand" grandparent. May her memory be a blessing and source of strength.

I worked alongside Joan at Literacy Chicago and will remember her wit, her real concern for student learning, her work to help students get the glasses they needed, and the way she always talked so proudly about her grandchildren. Joan, you will be missed. Fondly, Jaye
