My deepest sympathy to each and every one of Joanie's family and friends. She was such an incredibly wonderful person. When I moved to Nitta Yuma, over twenty years ago, I will always remember how very nice she was to me. Joanie had the most incredibly beautiful and warm smile and I never saw her when she wasn't wearing it.
I hope the love she had for all her family will give each of you comfort during this terrible time. Your loss is Heaven's gain and I hope that will give you some comfort as well.

Tom:
Wesley and Sida shared the news of Joan's homegoing. May your memories of Joan one day bring a smile instead of a tear, comfort instead of heartache, hope instead of sorrow. "Thou art my hope, O Lord." Psalm 71:5

Tom:
My wife Wendy and I extend our most sincere condolences to you and your sons during this time. I know that Joan fought a brave battle for quite a while but, in reading about her, leaves you with the certain knowledge that hers was a life well-lived. God has now embraced her and is giving her comfort for an eternity. I know that you and the boys will one day be united with her and that you will find peace in God's presence. A wonderful wife and mother never truly leaves her family... she will be with you and her family every step of the way.

Tom, Tommy and Henry, I am so sad about Joanie. I spoke at length with her a couple of months ago. Her spirits were good and she had the same positive attitude she had since I met her at the age of 7. Joanie was without a doubt the very best friend I could have hoped for growing up. Memories of her have flashed through my mind since I heard about her death in such a detailed way. I can still see a postcard she sent me from Atlantic Beach while she was visiting her Aunt Dot. She left for the summer and we hadn't been apart very long at that time. I missed her terribly. I feel so bad that I didn't call over the last month. I loved her and I know she was so proud of her family. May the peace of God comfort you. I left a voicemail for you today, Tom. When you feel like talking, please know that I am here for you. Take care.

My sister Mitzi & I grew up across the street from Joanie as kids. We have wonderful memories of the snow, bicyles, playing board games. Her father was always doing fun things for the children in the neighborhood. As a teenager I can remember the time Joanie brought Tom home from College to Salisbury to meet us all. I will never forget the LOVE they had for one another. She will be missed . May you all have God's Peace. Love, Vicki Hurley Medlin

Joan was a precious gift to all-
Her cheerful spirit, radiant smile, infectious laugh and
genuine kindness to all those she encountered made her an Ambassador of
True Friendship. We cherish the many good times we spent with her and her family over the years.
We are thankful to God for Joan; how we will miss her! God bless her memory and may He comfort Tom, Tommy, Gabby and Henry with His peace. Kristine and Gerry Larson

A special person who touched the lives of so many -- family, friends, fellow teachers, students. Love and sharing and family were at the heart of her life, and we'll remember her most affectionately. Hank and Mell Ackerman and family.
