Joan Fafinski Obituary
Joan C. Fafinski (nee Neal), 88, of Elk Grove Village for 60 years, passed away June 14, 2021, peacefully at her home. Joan retired as a Psychiatric Nurse after 27 years at Alexian Brothers Medical Center and she also volunteered as Eucharistic Minister for both the hospital and Queen of the Rosary Church. Joan was the beloved wife of Richard L. Fafinski for 68 years; loving mother of Richard T., John A. (Lynn), Bernard J, Christine J. (Nicholas) Gattuso, Janice M. (Robert) Cantieri, and Joan M. (David) Bryczek; dear sister of James (Cindy) Neal, George Neal, Margaret Quimby, and the late Larry Neal; cherished grandmother of 13, great grandmother of 11; she also leaves many loving nieces, nephews and friends. A visitation will be held Thursday, June 17, from 3 to 9 PM at Grove Memorial Chapel, 1199 S. Arlington Heights Road, Elk Grove Village with closing prayers Friday, 9:30 AM, proceeding to Queen of the Rosary Church for 10 AM Mass. Interment at St. Adalbert Cemetery, Niles. What words are there to identify feelings when a heart is broken? Joan always presented a warmth and caring spirit. She offered me emotional support when I needed it most. Joan was a Very Special Sister-in-Law. She will be sorely missed. Hugs to you, Joan, now and forever. So, how can you mend a broken heart? Put a good word for me to the guy at the Golden Gate when it's my time to join you. Love.

It was my privilege to work under Joan’s supervision on the Mental Health Unit of Alexian Brothers Medical Center. She expertly and sensitively managed the personal challenges of patients coming through the Emergency Room during the middle of the night. The northwest suburban community was a better for her many contributions.
May she rest in peace.
