While at Talladega College, she met her future husband, the late Dr. Theodore R. Sherrod, who was also a student. She graduated from Talladega in 1938, with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She worked for the Department of Public Aid as a social worker and subsequently as a Department supervisor for almost 40 years, retiring in 1975. Jessie Sherrod was a sorror in the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority for most of her adult life. She became a member of Woodlawn A.M.E Church in 1941 where she served as Sunday School Teacher for almost 40 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Ted Sherrod Jr. (a State Administrative Law Judge) and daughter-in-law, Joanna Sherrod, a loving granddaughter, Danielle and a host of loving relatives and friends.
