Mrs. Troka and family,
I was stunned and saddened to hear of Jim's passing. I'm very sorry for your pain. I met Jim when we worked on the same block for a number of years. He always wore that big smile that infected everyone. Truly one of the funniest persons I've ever known. I'm glad to have called him "friend".

Best Regards,
Sean Callahan

Dear Troka Family,
My deepest sympathy at the passing of Jim. I had dinner with my Mom yesterday and she mentioned his passing and I was shocked. I was on vacation for 2 weeks during that time, otherwise, had I known would have expressed this in person. Wow, growing up and attending Sauganash School and Queens are my fondest memories of Jim. He was my buddy growing up. He was a good guy and will be missed. My love to you and your family.
In deepest sympathy for your loss, regards from Bill Simon and the Simon Family

Jim,
Just a verse to try and summarize the feelings of shock & disbelief of your passing.....

I love you my friend
you're quite dear to me
A true friend you are
and always will be
You've left us with memories
of good times we've had
To treasure forever
and make us feel glad
You're leaving us now
and going your own way
Perhaps we will meet
in the future someday
Farwell now my friend
and please may you find
Good thoughts of all of us
always in your mind.

To the Troka family:

I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I had the privilege of working with Jim years ago. He always had a smile in his voice and on his face. Troka Family: I was devestated to hear about Jim's sudden death, and feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to laugh and spend time with him at Karen's Birthday Party. Up till then, Diane told me how much fun they all had planning their reunion and what a wonderful friend Jim had become again. He had a way about him that made you smile when you saw his glowing face. That had not changed from when we were younger. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

To Jim's family:
I am so sorry for your loss. I am one of those people that worked with Jim, at Walgreens. Jim taught me how to do my job, with kindness and humor. He made me feel so comfortable and confident. He will be sorely missed. I have a favorite poem that I hold close for when I lose someone dear. I hope it brings some comfort to you, Jim's family, whether you are related by blood - or love. You are all in my prayers.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

Cathy-
My condolences to you and your family.
As you may recall, my stories of your brother and I working together, back in the day, at Peterson's Drug Store were quite hilarious. I didn't know him that well up to that point, but he had an incredibly warm, fun, out-going personality. He made the time we worked together...enjoyable! Amazingly, I drove past the drug store Saturday afternoon and recalled some of those moments.

To all the family,
So shocking, too soon, too young! Jimmy David was God's messenger with peace, joy and love. All who have gone before us, his dear father Jim, family and friends, will be there to greet and welcome Jimmy David. Now we must think of all the joy he has given, pray for those who have passed on, and live for the living. No words can express all my sympathy for the family and friends. Joan, I send my love to make you strong. Jordan & Judith, I give you a big hug so you feel my sympathy for you. Beth, Cathy & Margaret, I'm so sorry for your loss and I wish I were there with you.

The Troka Family,
I am so sorry for all of you at this sad time. I knew Jim from high school days through Mary Jevitt. We had lost contact until recently and had been emailing each other. He told me he still had a caster I had given him back in the day cuz it matched his brown car. My dad made casters and he was fascinated by it. I loved his smile and his laughter! I hope you all know what a shining star he was in all our lives and will be missed. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

My deepest sympathy to the Troka Family,

Jim was an amazing man. He touched so many people with his kindness. He always knew exactly when I needed a laugh, he would stop by my office to tell me a story and without fail he would end up making me smile and many times laughing so hard I would cry. No matter what was going on in his own life, he always had time for everyone else. He was willing to do anything he could for his family and friends. I am so very fortunate to call him one of my best friends. I will miss him forever.

With Love and Sympathy,

I regret not having spent more time with you. You always lit up a room and made people laugh. One of your gifts was the ability to make people feel good about themselves. Dear Family & Friends:
Jim and I were friends from Walgreens. He to me was the father I always wanted. He was sincere, honest, intelligent,down-to-earth, fun, funny, outgoing, carefree, loved his daughter dearly and took care of his family and friends at any lenght or depth. You could not find a better man than Jim. All of us should consider ourselves fortuate to have been blessed with such a saint of a man, James D. Troka. I know Jim will be missed in my life, but he will always live on in my heart and memories. He's as good as it gets!

I couldn't have asked for a more welcoming, wonderful, hilarious father-in-law. I'll always lament the fact that we didn't have the opportunity to do the many things we'd planned, but I will cherish the times we had to spend together more than I can express. (-From the Bellagio marathon to the Battle of Stalingrad.) He could brighten my wife's darkest day with a simple phone call, and his influence shines through her every day in her witty, wry, zany sense of humor and her desire to help others. He'll be in our hearts always. ...Cheers, Jim. I'm really going to miss you.

December 3, 2007

I too am shocked and heartbroken over this loss. Jim and I met in high school and were friends ever since. I know of no one who didn't think he was the greatest guy - everybody wanted to be around him. Even though I now live in FL, we still had visits, calls and instant message conversations over the last couple of years. He always was and will be in my heart as one of the all time favorite people I've ever known.

My thoughts are with you all at this very sad time. I will miss him terribly, as will the rest of my family who knew and loved him as well.

I am so fortunate to have had the world's best dad for 24 years of my life. I am so proud of him. He treated everyone with kindness and always brought a smile to our faces. He has and will always be my hero and I love him more than words can express.

Thank you, Daddio, for all that you did and all that you will continue to do for me. I am the woman I am today because of you and it makes me so proud and overwhelms my heart with love.

Jim was the perfect friend. Always there for us, always listening, always supportive. He was serious when you needed him to be and funny otherwise. He brought laughter into every situation and conversation and I can’t imagine a gathering without him. We will miss him at Cubs Openers, softball games, every friend and family event we had, and mostly around here at Walgreens. God he made us laugh. Jim was a girls' guy as much as a guys' guy and we are the fortunate ones to have known him. We love him and will miss him so very much.

Dearest Family in Chicago,

I am so saddened and alarmed at our loss. Growing up with Jimmy, one could not be luckier in having him for a couusin. How I looked up to him and hence enjoyed speaking with him (and seeing him) during phone calls and the few visits back to Chicago to see my family. Jimmy is with Uncle Jim (his Dad) and Grandma and Grandpa now. How lucky can a guy be? The flip side is that we will miss him and all that he offered to all.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I love you all,
