James Seward Obituary

Seward, James Franklin

James Franklin Seward of Chicago's Beverly neighborhood was born June 19, 1951 on the far Southside of Chicago and passed into Eternal Life on May 28, 2022. Beloved husband of Merry Beth nee Pearse for 48 years, whom he met in first grade at Kellogg Elementary School. Extraordinarily proud and devoted father, teacher and fan of Betsy (Dave & Caroline) Duke-Nisbet, & Karey (Andrew) MacDonald both living in Beverly/Morgan Park today. Loving son of the late Jeanne nee Lindeman & Robert Seward who taught him his love of fishing at an early age. Cherished youngest brother of Scott (Gail), Terry (Lynn), twin brother John (Debbie), & the late Bob & Rich (Linda). Proud uncle of many nieces & nephews (both biological and adoptive). Dearest friend of many, especially Don Hayner, Henri Boucher, & the late Roger Findley III. Jim started his life as an avid fisherman on the Chicago and Michigan shorelines. He played on the footbal team at Morgan Park High School and at Lawrence University and continued his career in football at the Annual Turkey bowl in the Dan Ryan Woods, which will have its 59th anniversary this fall. In 1992 Jim founded Professional Sales Affiliates after leaving Bell/AT&T where he was well loved by his partners and staff alike. When that business sold in 1999, Jim became an amateur bird photographer and achieved his lifelong dream of being able to fish anywhere anytime. Please join us in celebrating the life and legacy of Jim "The Catfish" Seward. Resting at Thompson & Kuenster Funeral Home, 5570 W. 95th St. in Oak Lawn where Memorial Services will take place Saturday June 4th at 11:00 am. Visitation, also at Thompson & Kuenster Funeral Home will be Friday June 3rd from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Jim's legacy ripples on like the waves of Glen Lake, finding no distinction between friends or family. If you're reading this, take a piece of Jim with you: love boundlessly, go outside, and don't let the facts get in the way of a good story. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to help conserve and protect his favorite place by making a donation to The Glen Lake Association, 6406 Western Ave. Glen Arbor, Michigan 49636 or www.glenlakeassociation.org in Jim's name. thompsonkuensterfuneralhome.com 708-425-0500

My deepest condolences to Jim's family.
I was a classmate of Jim and John at Kellogg Elementary until my parents moved to Florida. Baseball, football and sledding in Dan Ryan woods, we did everything together. Great memories that I have cherished all the years!

Merry Beth and family,
So very sorry to hear this news about Jim, although I have not seen Jim in many years, I remember how he made us laugh at Kellogg Elementary school. Such a nice person. My sincere condolences.

Although our paths diverged in adulthood, they first crossed at the tender age of 5 when we began kindergarten at Kellogg.

Knowing Jim was knowing fun, laughter, & a generous soul.

He, Merry Beth & Jim's twin John will always be in my heart.

I jus read what Jeff wrote...YES!
You would have had to have been there: Chris. Kate. Amy. You would have had to been there.
Jim was magic. Jim was the glue. His insight, care and sense... never was there an experience as this. Thank you my dear Jim. Ever.

I had the privilege to work with Jim for more than a decade, first at AT&T's national sales training center, in turn as a sales manager, and ultimately as a business partner in Professional Sales Affiliates. I remember my first interview with Jim, where I found him to be warm and affable. Imagine my surprise when I later heard that I was late (and I was, but that's another story) and my shoes weren't shined. I learned afterwards he received feedback that he was "too nice" in his interviews and everyone thought they had the job; that was Jim to the core!

My fondest memories of Jim were at the carriage house over his garage and Glen Lake. As a nascent company, I remember working elbow-to-elbow, trading verbal jabs while finding joy and purpose in our work. Jim was an inspiration, and the source of our Guiding Principles, which to this day I can recite and often recount to others as a beacon for our business' success. I have worked for only two servant leaders in my 40-year career, which Jim epitomized.

And it was at Glen Lake where the convergence of Jim's affinity for the lake and our company was a magic elixir for quarterly business planning retreats with our leadership team. Always a vanguard for innovation, I recall impassioned conversations with our leadership as we galvanized the business predicated on values and principles which were a hallmark of Jim's leadership. And I hold precious still his gift upon the sale of our company, forged in 999.99% pure silver, simply saying "Thanks for your Sterling Leadership, Your Priceless Dedication And Your Precious Friendship". I echo this sentiment in homage to Jim - my friend, my partner, and my inspiration. I can hear his words now: "Don´t lay no Boogie Woogie on the King of Rock 'n Roll". I will miss him dearly.
