James Rakitan Obituary

Rakitan, James M. age 74, of Oak Park, after fighting illness for many years, Jim finally went home to rest. He was a beloved curmudgeon, appreciated for his humor, wisdom, honesty, and common sense. Husband of Connie (Swietek); father of Michael; extra-special nephew, cousin, uncle, and in-law to many; and best pal of Jack O'Brien. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Gail and his brother Bobby. Member of St. Catherine of Siena-St. Lucy parish since 1947, graduate of Fenwick High School (Class of '51), founding member of Faith & Fellowship, and 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. Visitation Friday 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena - St. Lucy Church, 38 N. Austin Blvd., Oak Park. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Catherine of Siena - St. Lucy Church or Faith & Fellowship are appreciated. Info: Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home. 708-383-3191.

Connie,
I am sorry to hear of Jim's death. While a parishoner at St.Catherine-St.Lucy, I always admired him (and you) and your wonderful work with Faith & Fellowship. I am keeping you and Michael in my prayers.
