James Rachick Obituary

Rachick, James W. 88, of Sarasota, FL, formerly of LaGrange Park, IL, passed away December 5, 2006. Loving husband for 58 years of Marie (nee Hejna), devoted father of Kathleen Mital (Phil) Kosin and Janice (Tod) Macklin. Preceded in death by beloved sisters, Marie Chinn Margaret Rybensky, Frances Luse; and brothers, Thomas and Richard Calhoun. Born in 1918, in Pittsburg KS, to parents Frank and Catherine, cherished friend to many. An avid golfer, he retired to Florida in 1980, after 30 years as Superintendent of Insurance and Claims for Natural Gas Pipeline, Chicago, IL. Proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on Destroyer U.S.S. Henley and on October 3, 1943, survived his ship's sinking after being struck by an enemy submarines torpedo near New Guinea. After being rescued he was reassigned and served on another destroyer, The U.S.S. Stockham. Lifetime member of American Legion Post 0336, Chicago, IL and lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3233, Sarasota, FL.
