Yes, he was my uncle but he was also my Godfather. more than a half century ago, he got on an el, in the middle of the night, to go to the hospital and donate blood for me. over the years we would make reference to this in a fun sort of way.
As I sat in the church yesterday, "little" memories kept filling my head and my face with smiles.
One that kept coming back was of a time I went with my parents to the restaurant, George Diamonds. We met up with Uncle Jim and Aunt Marty. I was 19 at the time. Wanting to feel puffed up and grown up, I ordered a highball. To me that would have been whiskey and ginger ale. The waiter brought whiskey and water. Yuck, I said. Uncle Jim,with a twinkle in his eye, said, learn to drink it, it's more grown up. After all those years, it's still my drink of choice. If there is a moral there, I fail to see it. It is however, a pleasant memory of my dear Godfather.

Dear Marty and Family,
I was sorry to learn of your loss. Unfortunately I am unable to offer my condolences in person, since I am recuperating from pneumonia. Please be assured that my prayers are with you and your family.
Sincerely,
Mary Grace (Addeo) Olszewski
