James Phelan Obituary

Phelan, James W. God gave us your gift of life on June 30, 1985 at Northwestern Prentice Hospital. You were a beautiful, smiling baby. The family watched you grow. You attended St. Daniel the Prophet grade school and received your sacraments. You went on to De La Salle Institute and you were an outstanding Meteor who excelled in football, wrestling and weight lifting. From De La Salle you went to Joliet Jr. College where you excelled on their football team. And in your last year, many scholarship requests came your way and you chose Youngstown State University in Youngstown, OH. After YSU you were invited by the Cleveland Browns (NFL) to their Rookie training camp. You became a Precinct Captain for Alderman Edward M. Burke (14). You were so proud of being a member of the 14th Ward Regular Democratic Organization. You will be dearly missed. You were predeceased by your grandparents, William and Bernice Phelan and Louis and Sylvia Radaszewski. You leave behind your grieving mom, Laura; your dad, Jim; your brother, William; your sister, Laura; and your joyous niece, Victoria, whom you loved dearly. Mass of the Resurrection was held at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church. Private services have been held. Entombment Resurrection Cemetery, Garden Mausoleum, Crypt 2304, Tier 1.

Sending prayers and my deepest condolences to the entire Phelan family. James was a good man. He was very courteous and helpful during the winter by stopping by my home and shoveling. It amazed me that he was so dedicated to helping me and my neighbors. He will be dearly missed.
