Not sure what to say?

April 22, 2012

I have just today learned of the death of my dear friend, Jim McMullen. Met him by phone in the industry in 1969, and last saw him in 1995, when we celebrated the life of a joint friend. Having been from Mississippi myself, we shared a common thread that made working with him a great pleasure. He never talked about himself, so by reading the obituary I have learned a great deal more about him...A quiet and gentle man..My prayers go out to you dear Madeleine, along with your family.

We sometimes say someone was "great," but often without actual merit. Mr. McMullan was a GREAT man in the truest sense. He provided so many opportuntites for the young people of Newton, Mississippi, as well as countless others across the country. But it was those students from his home town who were most enriched by his constant generosity. He not only provided a means for them to attend college, but he followed them through their academic careers and beyond. He was truly interested in these young people and wanted them to do good things, not for themselves, but for others and for their hometown of Newton. We mourn his loss and pray that his wonderful family will find comfort in his sweet memory during the difficult days and weeks ahead.
