James Kinsel Obituary

KINSEL James T. Kinsel December 20, 1925-October 14, 2008. A Mass of Christian burial for James T. Kinsel, 82, of Newark will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2008, at St. Francis DeSales Church, Newark, with the Rev. Adam Streitenberger officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Church, Somerset. Mr. Kinsel died October 14, 2008, at the Licking Memorial Hospice Center following a brief illness. He was born December 20, 1925, in Bristol, Perry County, to the late Hugh and Margaret Kinsel. A proud member of the United States Marine Corps, Mr. Kinsel served his country in the Pacific Theater in World War II. A lifelong member of the AFL-CIO, Mr. Kinsel served as a union steward for the International Association of Machinists and his professional career included employment with the Roper Corp. and Holophane Corp. in Newark. An avid golfer and longtime member of Perry County Club in Somerset, he recorded a score equal to his age on several occasions and achieved two hole in ones. He was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; the Fraternal Order of Eagles; and the Elks. In recent years, he found great pleasure in playing cards at Zerger Hall on Tuesday and Saturday nights. He was a member of St. Francis DeSales Church for 30 years and was a graduate of New Lexington High School in Perry County. He is survived by his five children, Marilyn Grendel of Cincinnati, Patricia (Tim) Miller of Pataskala, John (Kim) Kinsel of Worthington, Karen (Joe) Schopp of Newark and David (Meredith) Kinsel of Milford, Mich.; sisters, Janet (Sr. Therese) Kinsel of Bristol, Mary (Robert) Soller of Marysville; 15 grandchildren, Geoff Grendel of Naples, Fla., Jenny Grendel of Brooklyn, N.Y., Michael Grendel of Chicago, IL., Ryan (Amy) Miller of Clintonville, Allan Miller of Grandview, Courtney Kinsel, Kathryn Kinsel, Kelly Kinsel and Julia Kinsel of Worthington, Jesse Schopp of Wilmington, N.C., Joe Schopp of Newark, Emma Kinsel of Milford, Mich.; step-grandchildren, Michael, Megan and Madeline Siemiantkowski, of Milford, Mich. Mr. Kinsel was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Julia Green of Somerset, his brothers Wilford and Edmund and sister Virginia McLain.
