James Kerr Obituary

GREENSBORO, Ga. - Mr. James T. Kerr, age 86 of Greensboro and Sparta passed away Monday night, April, 11th, 2005 at the VA Medical Center in Augusta. Mr. Kerr was a native of Greene County, Georgia and was the son of Joel D. and Mamie Gray Kerr. He was a US Army veteran of WWII having enlisted just prior to Pearl Harbor and served in Europe along with his two brothers. While there, Mr. Kerr was wounded in action, convalesced in England and later returned to finish the war. After the war, Mr. Kerr became a farmer in the Greyland Community in Greene County. Later, he was a truck farmer and was known as the 'Appleman' from Eatonton to Watkinsville. Mr. Kerr was a former member of the Enon Baptist Church in Veasey and later became a member of the Siloam Baptist Church were he was a longtime deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Mr. Kerr's survivors are a son, Garland Kerr of Soperton; two sisters, Frances K. Smith of Union Point and Naomi K. Brown of Cochran , 4 grandchildren, 7 great-grand children, plus several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Wood Kerr and two brothers, J.D. and Robert Kerr. Funeral services for Mr. Kerr will be held 3:00 PM, Thursday April 14th, 2005 at the Siloam Baptist Church with messages from Rev. James Bowen, Rev Wayne Usry, Rev. Burt Mauldin and Rev. Joel Brown. Pallbearers will include Robert Kerr, Timothy Kerr, Joel Kerr, Michael Kerr, Ben Stephens and Jamie Brown. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 9:00 PM, Wednesday April 13th, 2005 at the funeral home. I met Mr. Kerr while visiting a friend's mother at Sparta Healthcare. From that day on we would always stop to speak to one another. I was so looking forward to seeing him on my next visit. My condolences to the family.
