On the anniversary of Jims passing I want to say I still miss him a lot. When I walk in the beach house. I miss not seeing him and having our talk usually about sports. He loved the Cubs and I would ask him about them and I am a huge Bucs fan so we would talk about the Bucs. I miss our talks. I miss his smile and I miss not seeing him. On the anniversary of his passing I will pray for the Dowdle family and say I miss him and will always remember what great friend he was. Sincerely Brian Murphy

I always forget until there is a family gathering how many times and ways your extended family has touched my life. Growing up the values that I saw being shared inspired me. Yet it was overwhelming in so many ways to realize what an amazing legacy is living, sharing, growing and hopefully inspiring more of the same. Your dad will be missed but I rejoice in the family that he left behind.

Sally, Jeanne, all of the grandkids, and the entire family,
My condolences to your family. Jim was one of the nicest men I've ever met. I feel honored and very lucky to have known such a wonderful and respected man. My days at Wrigley Field won't be the same without him, but he will always be remembered by seeing the rest of the family on a regular basis at the games. We will all miss Jim terribly.

Jim Dowdle was one of the giants in Broadcasting and I will always consider myself really lucky to have worked with him. He was not only a VERY smart guy he managed to make Tribune Broadcasting the best place to work in the television business during his tenure. More than anything Jim had the ability to make you want to crawl over broken glass to succeed. He cared about the employees that much. I may have been lucky but I never witnessed him lose his cool and he always had that self-deprecating manner and grin that would relax you. My condolences to Sally and the entire Dowdle clan...Jim will be missed.

Mrs. Dowdle, Jeanne and all the Dowdles,
I was a roommate of a couple of St. Pete Catholic boys in college and came to know briefly some of your family. Your family was always generous and gracious as hosts when we visited in Florida or later in Illinois. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. Dan Flynn

Mr. Dowdle was a gentleman. He was kind and sincere. He was the patriarch of a wonderful family that will carry his legacy. About ten years ago he and my father witnessed my first hole in one. I can't think of two finer people to share that special moment. Our deepest condolences to the entire family. God bless your family in this time of sadness. Rest in peace Mr. Dowdle, you were a fine example for all of us to follow. Bob and Arlana Guckenberger

Jim was virtually an iconic member of the Notre Dame Class of 1956; he was such a charismatic guy that always had a smile and good word to share. So many of us had personal "good guy" stories to tell about him.
And, when he was the Cubs main man, I swear
he became part of the diety. I'll miss him; his many ND56 Classmates will miss him; Notre Dame will miss him. And condolences to his number one priority: Sally and the kids.
