Our condolences to the family and friends of Father
We met Father Gavin his first day of work at St. Matt's. He came to the hospital to give her her final blessings and has been coming for 37 years on that date to comfort us and celebrat her life. We will truly miss him this year but have his Gavinisms to comfort and guide us. He will be in our hearts forever.
Your life was a blessing
Your memory a treasure
You are loved beyond words
And missed beyond measure.

Father Gavin was a great man and a great person. He couldn't pass up a back-to-school school supply sale. And he used to say that if you allow unused clothes to stay in your closet you are stealing them from the back of the poor people or something like that. I've never met a priest as liked and respected as he was. He is back home with God.

My wife and I have known Gavin for a long time, myself for 70 years, Kathy for over 50. Gavin's life was one in service to other people. He was in his element when he was preaching, consoling and celebrating happy events in the lives of others. As a priest, he was so often engaged with offering the sacraments of the Catholic Church: "Hatch, Patch, Match, and Dispatch," as he often put it. Thanks, Gavin, for your life.

Father Gavin was such a great person. My dad died just after I graduated 8th grade. Three Carmelite priests came to the wake- Fathers Gavin Quinn, Dave Dillon and Bob Lee. They told my mother "don't worry about your son. That's our job". They were there for me when I needed it most. May Our Lady of Mount Carmel bless Gavin Quinn. John Plezbert, M.C. Class of 1974.

Our deepest condolences to the Family of Father Gavin. He was the prototype of what a Catholic Priest should be. Compassionate, kind, always knowing what to say and do at the best and worst of times. Being "there" when you needed it the most (one of his Galvanism's). He buried my father-in-law and mother and made those saddest occasions into joyful celebrations like only he could. He spent countless hours visiting my father-in-law and father in the hospital & nursing homes when they were on their final journeys home to God. A welcome friend at our home for all sorts of family celebrations and tragedies. I will miss our before dinner scotch, or sometimes two, before sitting down to my wife's homemade pasts dinners, he so enjoyed her homemade sauce! His example brought me back to my faith many years ago when I had all but given up on our Catholic Church. I will never forget him and am already truly missing him every day.

Father Quinn was one of many Mt. Carmel priests having an impact over a generation with a decidedly non- austentacious demeanor. Was he your, friend? Your big brother? Your Father figure? Your spiritual Shepard? What was he to you exactly? Correct answer was All of the Above. For my family he was the emotional and spiritual salve at the worst time if our lives when my father passed away. He came in the evening to our home the night after when despair was setting in. He embraced and reassured every member of the family present from my older brother Jack, class of '62, myself, '71 and my youngest brother Don, '73 assuring us that the Fathers Club, which he had a hand in would ascertain that my Mother's fear of tuition was absolved much as he absolved our sins in confession. His presence with immovable strength and faith during our darkest moment was cathartic beyond measure. One cannot elaborate enough in words the love this common man standing tall and resolute yet kind, knowing, and healing wounded souls extended after having been a teacher as well simply cannot be overstated. He was to me the embodiment of the Good Shephard. He truly will be missed by and for generations.

To the family and friends of Fr. Gavin,

I was saddened to hear from my good friend and Carmel classmate Jack Nelson that Fr. Gavin had recently passed away.
Jack and I shared many a fond (and some not-so-fond) memories of Fr. Gavin both during our HS years and after.
Fr. Gavin was a great man, priest, and mentor to myself and the many that were blessed to have him a part of their lives.
I am sad to say that I truly did not come to appreciate him, his loyalty and caring demeanor to MC, the young men (and families) under his charge, and the wisdom that he shared until after graduating from MC.
When both my parents passed way, Fr. Gavin was there to offer prayerful reflection, a comforting presence and conversation, and pious intervention to help each in their spiritual transition from illness and eventual death.
For his many acts of kindness, I am and shall always be eternally grateful!
Fr. Gavin Quinn was a true gift to all those whom he touched ....
Rest peacefully and dwell in the loving glow and warmth of our Savior Jesus Christ the Lord, Gavin, and smile upon us all...
Respectfully,
Tom Noble, Jr. '72
